The film is distinct from Gully Boy: that fictionalized feature was loosely based on the lives of DIVINE and fellow rapper Naezy, while Gully Life follows DIVINE himself.
What is Gully Life about?
Gully Life is a 55-minute documentary directed by Akshat Gupt and produced by Red Bull Media House and Supari Studios, according to Scroll.in’s June 2019 interview. It traces DIVINE’s Mumbai roots and his path in Indian hip-hop through the places and relationships that shaped him.
The film opens in a barber shop before following him into Sahar, in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb, including the lanes and home where he spent his early childhood. Scroll reported that filming took place over 18 months and included his mother, grandmother, father, friends and fellow musicians. His mother speaks on camera for the first time in the film, according to the interview.
DIVINE described the documentary as a way to share a personal history with his audience: “I like to share everything with my fans, and a documentary was a very good way of communicating all that had been going on in my life over the past 20 years,” he said in the Scroll interview.

How is the documentary different from Gully Boy?

The connection is real, but the works are not interchangeable: one documents DIVINE, while the other is a dramatized story inspired by two rappers.
Where was Gully Life meant to be watched?
At the time of the June 2019 interview, the reported release schedule was a July 1 television airing on Discovery Channel and other Discovery Inc. channels, followed by Red Bull TV on July 15 and DIVINE’s YouTube channel on July 17. Red Bull’s film page also describes the later digital release dates. These are historical release details, not confirmation that the documentary remains available on those services today. The cited sources do not establish its current streaming availability in any country.

What was DIVINE’s new album?
The album discussed in 2019 was Kohinoor, described in the Scroll interview as DIVINE’s anticipated first full-length album. It had been delayed from an expected April 2019 release, so that earlier target should not be mistaken for its final release date. Apple Music’s catalog later lists Kohinoor as a 2019 album. In a March 2019 interview with Bangin Beats, DIVINE said, “I want it to be the best representation of my sound and of me as an artist.”
Scroll’s interview places the album in a broader evolution: DIVINE began writing in English, then moved toward Hindi mixed with Mumbai slang. It identifies “Ye Mera Bombay” (2013) as a breakthrough, “Meri Gully Mein” (2015), made with Naezy, as the song that propelled him to stardom, and “Jungli Sher,” “Scene Kya Hai” (2016) and “Farak” (2017) among his other hits.

What did “gully” mean to DIVINE?
For DIVINE, “gully” was not just a reference to a neighborhood. In the Scroll interview, he connected it to the drive behind his music and to Mumbai’s influence: “One thing that will not change is that Mumbai is the teacher I never had. I’ll always be inspired by it. For me, the word ‘gully’ is passion, it’s motivation. I’m very proud of that word.”
The interview also came as Gully Boy was bringing wider attention to Mumbai hip-hop. In March 2019, DIVINE said the film had helped people understand hip-hop “to some extent” and that the community had a responsibility to sustain that momentum. He described Gully Gang Entertainment as a platform for a label, emerging talent and live music properties. The Week later reported that Gully Gang Records released its first single, “Gully Gang Cypher,” in May 2019.
