The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, reportedly bought a Bel Air mansion for $70 million in an off-market deal in 2021. Architectural Digest described a roughly 33,000-square-foot home on 1.6 acres, with extensive entertainment and recreation spaces. Those details capture the property as it was reported at the time—not its current owner, occupancy, or value.
How much did The Weeknd pay for his Bel Air mansion?
Architectural Digest and Realtor.com reported that Tesfaye paid $70 million for the Bel Air estate in August 2021. The transaction was off-market, and Realtor.com described it as one of Los Angeles’s most expensive transactions that year. That ranking is specific to 2021, not a claim about the city’s current market. Architectural Digest’s account reported the purchase price and property details.
Was the purchase really off-market?
Yes. Contemporary coverage described the sale as an off-market deal, rather than a publicly listed home sale. In September 2021, Realtor.com quoted Douglas Elliman agent Connie Blankenship explaining the dynamics: “When a property is sold off-market, the buyer has to pay a premium high enough to entice the current owner to sell.” That was her explanation of the transaction context at the time, not a general rule or current market advice. Realtor.com’s September 2021 report also included comments from other agents about the deal.
What is inside The Weeknd’s Bel Air mansion?
Architectural Digest reported approximately 33,000 square feet of interior space on a 1.6-acre lot overlooking the Bel Air Country Club. The estate’s reported amenities combined leisure, entertainment, fitness, and outdoor areas:

Dutch media executive Reinout Oerlemans and his wife Danielle reportedly bought the estate in 2015 for $21.4 million. Architectural Digest said they renovated it over three years and added 13,000 square feet. What did real-estate agents say about the $70 million price?
Realtor.com’s September 2021 coverage presented the price through the views of agents working in the luxury market. Amalfi Estates listing agent Anthony Marguleas called it “a big number.” Nourmand & Associates principal Myra Nourmand said at the time: “There are not a lot of luxury houses for sale right now, and the market is very, very hot. Everybody wants the same things: land, view, and great quality.” These were contemporaneous opinions about the 2021 market, not an appraisal of the home or current market guidance.
