BTS’s shared-housing story runs from a crowded trainee apartment in Nonhyeon-dong to a more private home at Hannam THE HILL in late 2017. The clearest details come from the members’ own recollections of their early living conditions and a contemporary news report on the later move; the intervening dorm timeline is less certain.
What was BTS’s first dorm like?
In a March 24, 2021 report on BTS’s appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, Soompi recounted RM’s memory of meeting V in September 2011 in a two-room apartment in Nonhyeon-dong, where trainees lived together. RM said about 30 trainees passed through the dorm over time, and seven became BTS. Soompi’s account of the interview also notes V’s memory of the difficulty of trainees leaving and being separated from his parents.
The members described the lack of space in personal terms. J-Hope recalled, “It was really tough when all of us shared a single room.” Jungkook said he waited until the others fell asleep before showering and tried not to make noise on the top bunk. These recollections convey how crowded the early arrangement felt, but they do not establish a precise floor plan beyond RM’s description of a two-room apartment.
How did their shared housing change?
Accounts of the years between the trainee dorm and Hannam are less settled. The fan-maintained BTS 101 chronology of where BTS lived reconstructs several successive dorms, including different room arrangements and roommate groupings. It cites Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS for one arrangement—Jin with Suga, Jungkook with RM, and J-Hope with V and Jimin—but the chronology itself flags uncertainty. Treat those details as a secondary reconstruction rather than a complete, officially confirmed sequence.

For that reason, it is more accurate to describe a progression from trainee housing to shared homes for the seven-member group than to present a definitive list of buildings, dates, or addresses. The available accounts do not firmly establish every move or the exact layout of each residence.
When did BTS move to Hannam THE HILL?
SBS Star reported on December 13, 2017, that BTS moved to Hannam THE HILL at the beginning of December under a contract signed in November. The report quoted an unnamed industry source who described the move as providing a more comfortable shared living space. It also attributed the choice to privacy and a quiet place to rest amid the members’ frequent travel; those were the source’s explanations, not direct quotations from BTS. The same report placed THE HILL in the context of Seoul’s high-end housing market. In a separate property detail, SBS Star reported that a 244.89㎡ unit at the complex had sold for 8,200 million won in the previous year. That is a historical transaction reported in 2017—not evidence that BTS bought the unit, nor a current valuation. SBS also cited Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport figures placing THE HILL units among Seoul’s ten most expensive apartment transactions from January through November 2017. Were BTS members roommates?
Yes, members shared rooms during at least some periods, according to the accounts available here. The strongest evidence for the earliest conditions is the members’ retrospective description of a shared room and Jungkook’s memory of using a top bunk. Later roommate combinations appear in the fan chronology’s reconstruction, including a grouping it connects to Beyond the Story; the precise full sequence is not firmly established by the cited reporting.

Why precise addresses are not part of this history
This is a story about how shared living conditions changed as BTS’s career developed, not a guide to private residences. Public recollections and historical reporting are enough to explain the broad timeline; detailed unit information and present-day residential details are not needed and should not be treated as visitor destinations.
