The film then finished 2024 at No. 1 on Box Office Mojo’s domestic chart for the year. The $600 million crossing is a dated milestone, not an all-time record, and it should not be confused with the film’s worldwide totals.
What the $600 million milestone was
Disney’s UK press release, dated July 24, 2024, says the film crossed $600 million domestically “yesterday,” meaning July 23, 2024. The announcement reports a threshold reached during the film’s theatrical run. It does not say that reaching $600 million was itself a record, so readers should not read the headline as one.
Disney uses “domestic” as its label for the home market. The announcement excerpt relied on here does not spell out which territories that covers, so the figure should be attributed as Disney’s domestic number rather than restated as a generic U.S. total.
The 2024 domestic ranking
Box Office Mojo’s “Domestic Box Office For 2024” chart, accessed in 2026, places Inside Out 2 at No. 1 for the year with $652,980,194 in domestic gross. This is a calendar-year chart total. It is larger than the $600 million threshold because the film kept earning after July 23. The chart figure is the one to quote for the film’s full 2024 domestic performance, and it is a different measure from the milestone announced in July.

Worldwide figures and their dates
Disney reported $1.462 billion worldwide as of July 24, 2024. That is a snapshot from the point in the run when the release was issued, not a final worldwide total. The worldwide and domestic numbers answer different questions and should never be substituted for one another.

The speed claim Disney made
Disney also said the film crossed $1 billion worldwide in 19 days and described that as the fastest ever for an animated film. That is a record claim, and it belongs to Disney’s own framing. It concerns worldwide pace, not the $600 million domestic crossing, and no independent source reviewed here confirms the ranking.

What the studio said about the film’s reach
In the July 24, 2024 announcement, Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment, said: “Inside Out 2 is a quintessentially Pixar film, and it’s been amazing to see how it has connected so deeply with people all over the world.” That is a promotional statement from a studio executive about global audience response. It does not explain why the film grossed what it did domestically, and the sources reviewed here contain no independent analysis of that question.

How to cite the figures correctly
- For the milestone, write: “Disney reported that Inside Out 2 passed $600 million domestically on July 23, 2024.”
- For the year-end ranking, write: “Box Office Mojo lists Inside Out 2 as the No. 1 domestic release of 2024, with $652,980,194.”
- For worldwide context, always add the date: “$1.462 billion worldwide as of July 24, 2024.”
- Do not describe the $600 million crossing as a record, and do not present the annual domestic total as a lifetime worldwide figure.
Keeping these measures separate is the simplest way to avoid the most common error in box-office headlines, which is treating a milestone date, a domestic chart total and a worldwide snapshot as if they were one number.
