Musashi is an 87.78-metre (288-foot) Feadship motor yacht delivered in 2011 and commissioned by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, according to YachtBuyer. The often-repeated $160 million figure is a reported cost, not a verified transaction or current valuation; Forbes Australia has published a separate estimate of $108 million.
What is Musashi?
Musashi is a large custom motor yacht built by Dutch shipyard Feadship. YachtBuyer lists its length as 87.78 metres (288 feet) and identifies Ellison as the commissioning owner. The specialist publication describes a steel displacement hull and an aluminium superstructure. These are publication-reported specifications, rather than figures confirmed here by the builder.
YachtBuyer credits De Voogt with the yacht’s exterior design and naval architecture, and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design with its interior. It lists a gross tonnage of 2,463 GT and five decks.
What is inside Musashi?
YachtBuyer lists accommodation for 18 guests in 10 cabins, with a crew of 24. Its reported onboard features include a glass elevator, a swimming pool, a cinema, a gym and a fold-down swimming platform. These details come from the publication’s yacht profile and should be understood as reported specifications.

A Japanese-influenced interior
YachtBuyer describes the interior as combining Japanese influence—expressed through proportion, light and restraint—with Art Deco elements. The materials it names include teak, Makassar ebony, Jerusalem Gold marble, silk carpets, chenille and cashmere. A glass staircase encircling the elevator is described as the interior’s focal feature.
Why was Musashi designed this way?
In YachtBuyer’s account, Ellison wanted a more manageable successor to his previous yacht, Rising Sun: one that retained long-range capability and extensive glazing while being able to cruise more widely and enter smaller ports and marinas. The profile also connects the design to Ellison’s interest in Japanese culture and says the yacht was inspired by the samurai Miyamoto Musashi. Those points are YachtBuyer’s account of the brief, not a direct quotation from Ellison or the designers.

How much did Musashi cost?
The $160 million figure in secondary coverage should not be treated as a confirmed purchase price or as Musashi’s present-day value. AOL describes the yacht as having cost “some $160 million,” and Luxurylaunches has repeated that figure, but neither source establishes a documented transaction or a current appraisal.
Forbes Australia lists a separate estimated value of $108 million and gives the yacht’s length as 285 feet. That estimate is not directly comparable to a reported construction cost: the figures describe different things, and neither source establishes a verified sale price. The available reporting does not establish a primary valuation or current broker listing.
