Vanessa Hudgens described the ivy-covered Los Feliz house known as Little DeMille as a place that made her feel transported to France or Italy. In Architectural Digest’s 2021 home tour, its old-Hollywood character—olive trees, historic details and a park-like yard—meets a personal mix of vintage furnishings, refreshed rooms and outdoor entertaining.
What is the Little DeMille?
Little DeMille is the name Architectural Digest used for Hudgens’s Georgian colonial home in Los Feliz, California. The feature, published 7 November 2021, reports that Cecil B. DeMille built the house in 1922, purportedly for his mistress, and that actor Gary Oldman owned it before Hudgens. Those are the feature’s accounts of the property’s history; the mistress story is presented as purported, not established here as independently verified fact.
Hudgens told Sheila Yasmin Marikar that she had spent five years looking for a Georgian colonial. The ivy and surrounding olive trees were part of the appeal: “Walking through the gate and seeing this house covered in ivy, surrounded by olive trees, it was like I had been transported to France or Italy.” She also said she was drawn to historic homes and their imperfections: “To me, there’s something so romantic about that, a home with character and quirks.” Architectural Digest India’s 2021 feature frames the house’s provenance and architecture as part of its identity, rather than as a neutral backdrop.
Which old-Hollywood details shaped the house?
The tour points to Art Deco air vents, a chandelier over the staircase and the home’s established architectural character. Oldman was credited with installing 18th-century French oak floors. Outside, the yard felt more like a park than a conventional city garden, with mature greenery that reinforced the sense of an enclosed retreat.

In an official Architectural Digest video segment released in 2026, Hudgens described the mood she wanted: “I wanted it to feel really French, because the land is very French and vibey.” She also singled out the ivy: “The ivy over this house is one of my favorite things ever, because when do you get a brick house in LA that’s covered in Ivy?” These comments add her own voice to the 2021 tour’s explanation of why the setting felt so transporting. The Architectural Digest video transcript is a later first-person supplement; it does not establish who owns or lives in the house now.
How did Hudgens update the interiors?
A kitchen refresh she handled herself
Hudgens bought the home in 2018. She hired designer Jake Arnold to remodel the primary suite, then took on a kitchen refresh during the pandemic. The changes described in the feature were new marble, painted cabinets and brass knobs and drawer pulls. She credited Ashley Tisdale with advice about where to shop.

A living room that changed course
Hudgens initially pictured a white, monochromatic living room and ordered a large white linen sofa from RH. A vintage pink mohair sofa changed her mind. Tisdale introduced her to the green armchairs, giving the room a richer, more layered palette. The feature also identifies a silver gelatin print by Peter Tomka, rugs from Lawrence of La Brea used throughout the home, and a dining-room chandelier found on 1stdibs.
The result is less a single-period recreation than a mix of historic character and objects chosen for their individual presence. The reported furnishings offer design inspiration, but the tour does not establish current availability or exact specifications for comparable pieces.

How does the garden extend the home?
The outdoor spaces were part of the way Hudgens used the house, not simply a view from indoors. She said much of her entertaining happened outside, including dinners in the yard. The feature mentions two grapefruit trees and an avocado tree, while artist Carly Kuhn, known as the Cartorialist, painted a mural of faces around the pool. Together, the planting, artwork and gathering spaces make the garden feel as deliberately personal as the rooms inside.

The primary bath brings the home’s sanctuary idea into focus. Hudgens called it “a sexy cave” and described a deep ceramic tub, open windows, music and candlelight as part of a private ritual: “I fell in love with the idea of sitting in this deep, ceramic bathtub with the windows open, hearing the French music outside waft up through the windows, watching the candlesticks burn.” In the tour, the bath is less about a list of finishes than about how she wanted to feel in the space: sheltered, restored and at home.
