Kim Kardashian and Ivanka Trump’s publicly reported relationship spans social events and criminal-justice advocacy, but its private degree of closeness is not independently established. The clearest documented connection came in 2018, when Kardashian said she contacted Ivanka about Alice Marie Johnson’s case and Ivanka connected her with Jared Kushner.
How their relationship reportedly began
Us Weekly reported that Kardashian and Ivanka met at the Met Gala in May 2014. The outlet, citing an unnamed source, said they initially bonded over motherhood and being new mothers. That account is reported background, not a direct statement from either woman.

The 2018 connection: Alice Marie Johnson
Kardashian’s outreach to Ivanka became publicly significant in 2018, when Kardashian advocated for Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence. Kardashian told TIME that she called Ivanka because she thought Ivanka would understand and might help. TIME reported that Ivanka connected Kardashian with her husband, then-White House adviser Jared Kushner.
“I called Ivanka, thinking she would be able to help, and she would understand woman to woman, and really see and feel compassion, and she did,” Kardashian West told TIME.

ELLE’s account of Kardashian’s CNN interview with Van Jones similarly reports that Kardashian said she explained Johnson’s story to Ivanka, who connected her with Kushner.
Kardashian later met Donald Trump, and Johnson’s life sentence was commuted. TIME described the case as involving a much wider coalition of reform advocates and White House participants, so the public record does not support crediting a personal friendship alone for the outcome. TIME also reported that the First Step Act was expected to likely speed the release of more than 2,600 federal prisoners; that is policy context, not a measure of the relationship.

White House visits and reform work
Us Weekly’s timeline records Kardashian visiting the White House in September 2018 in connection with clemency and returning in June 2019 to discuss second-chance hiring and prisoner reentry. In 2019, Kardashian announced a Lyft partnership intended to help formerly incarcerated people travel to interviews, jobs and family visits. These appearances situate the Ivanka connection within Kardashian’s broader public advocacy, rather than establishing that the two worked alone.
AP’s 2024 account describes Kardashian as an advocate who worked with Kushner during the Trump administration and later took part in a Biden White House criminal-justice discussion with Vice President Kamala Harris. AP also reported that Donald Trump had criticized Kardashian publicly, while Kardashian said she would focus on his criminal-justice record, including the First Step Act. Those reports concern Kardashian’s relationship with Donald Trump and her advocacy; they do not demonstrate a falling-out between Kim and Ivanka.

Reported social contact through 2024
Us Weekly reported that Kardashian and Ivanka were seen dining at Beverly Hills’ Polo Lounge in October 2022. The outlet noted that the dinner followed public controversy over Kanye West’s antisemitic remarks, but the timing alone does not establish why they met.
Us Weekly also reported Ivanka’s attendance at Kardashian’s October 2023 birthday celebration and a December 2023 Las Vegas event. In its October coverage, the outlet quoted an unnamed source saying the women had been friends for years and continued to connect. The description of their closeness is therefore attributed to that source.

Madame Figaro reported that Ivanka appeared in a June 2024 episode of The Kardashians and that Kardashian posted birthday wishes and photos with Ivanka on October 30, 2024. Those are dated signs of public contact; they do not establish how close the women are privately now.
