Emerald City Comic Con returned to downtown Seattle from August 18–21, 2022, for four days of comics and wider pop culture. The Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle reported that ReedPop anticipated 65,000 attendees; that was a projection, not a verified final attendance count.
When and where was Emerald City Comic Con 2022?
ECCC 2022 ran August 18–21 at the Seattle Convention Center in downtown Seattle. The four-day gathering brought together fans, cosplayers, collectors, vendors, artists, authors, actors, and people working in comics-related industries, according to the Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle’s retrospective.
The convention’s scope extended beyond comics. ECCC’s official event description and press archive identify television, cosplay, anime, manga, games, animation, graphic novels, and toys among its areas of interest (ECCC About; ECCC press archive).
How many people attended ECCC 2022?
The Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle reported that ReedPop anticipated 65,000 attendees across the four-day event. The figure was an announced expectation, not a final attendance result. A verified realized count is not established in the available historical sources.

More than 350 artists in Artist Alley
The Consulate’s 2022 report described Artist Alley as featuring more than 350 artists from across the United States. It is a figure reported by the Consulate, not an independently audited count.
Pop Asia’s expanded presence
The Consulate said it returned to ECCC for a second year in the Pop Asia space. Its report described Pop Asia as having doubled its number of booths from the previous year and added an interactive area, but did not give an exact booth count.

Japan-focused panels and activities
The Consulate’s contribution included presentations by alumni of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program and former students who had studied in Japan. Its program also featured demonstrations and talks on furoshiki, Japanese armor, and traditional folktales. At the booth, visitors could try a chopstick challenge and pick up travel information about Japan. These were elements of the Consulate’s programming, not a complete account of ECCC’s schedule.

The ECCC 2022 exhibitor manual stated: “The buying and selling of counterfeit / knock-off / unlicensed materials is not tolerated ECCC.” The manual documents the policy; it does not establish how it was enforced in individual cases. The same manual said that public areas, lobbies, exhibit halls, and meeting rooms at the Washington State Convention Center were ADA accessible at the time. That historical statement should not be treated as current venue-access guidance.
