There is no single monthly rupee figure for every Indian household. Estimate the PC’s average power draw at the wall, convert it to monthly units (kWh), then apply the marginal energy rate on your electricity tariff. As simple 30-day examples, a steady 50 W draw uses about 36 kWh, while 100 W uses about 72 kWh. Those are calculations, not measurements of a typical streaming PC.
Estimate the monthly electricity use
Use this formula for a device running continuously for a 30-day month:
Monthly kWh = average wall watts ÷ 1,000 × 24 × 30
For every 30 W of average draw, continuous use adds 0.72 kWh per day, or 21.6 kWh in 30 days. The examples below assume an unchanging draw and 720 hours of operation.

These figures represent electricity use, not the entire bill. To estimate the added energy charge, multiply the added kWh by the applicable marginal rate. A household that crosses a tariff slab may pay different rates for different portions of the added use.
What those units might cost in India
Retail household tariffs vary by state, distribution company (DISCOM), tariff category, consumption slab and subsidy. The Ministry of Power states: “Electricity tariffs in India are determined by the Appropriate Electricity Regulatory Commissions under the Electricity Act, 2003.” Check your bill and the applicable tariff schedule rather than using a single nationwide rate.

For a clearly limited example, Lakshadweep’s Department of Electricity lists these normal domestic energy charges for FY 2026–27:

At those rates, 36 kWh corresponds to about ₹128–₹470 in added energy charges, and 72 kWh to about ₹256–₹940, depending on the applicable slab. Lakshadweep is an example, not a national proxy. These illustrations exclude other bill components: the listed fixed charge is ₹25/kW/month, and actual bills can also depend on total household use, subsidy, duties and other adjustments.

Measure the PC instead of guessing its wattage
The useful input is average AC power draw at the wall while the stream is playing—not the maximum wattage printed on the PC’s power supply. Draw can vary with the computer’s components, playback resolution, browser or app, GPU acceleration, encoding, background tasks and attached equipment. If you want the combined cost of the setup, measure or include the monitor and peripherals too.
- Run the stream in the same way you normally would, with the settings and equipment you plan to use.
- Use a plug-in electricity usage monitor suitable for your local outlet and the connected load. Where possible, record its accumulated kWh over several representative hours; a longer period can smooth out short-term variation.
- For a watt reading, substitute the representative average into the monthly formula. For an accumulated kWh reading, scale it to the hours you expect to run in a month.
- Check your electricity bill for your DISCOM, domestic tariff category, applicable slabs and any subsidy or adjustment, then estimate the added charge against your household’s existing consumption.
ENERGY STAR’s computer measurement guidance tests power from an AC source and distinguishes operating states such as off, sleep and idle. Old examples should not be mistaken for a current streaming-PC benchmark: a circa-2008 ENERGY STAR stakeholder annex shows one desktop at about 57 W average idle draw, and a 2006-era Category A desktop specification set a 50 W idle limit. Neither establishes the draw of your computer during playback.

Why the bill estimate can differ from the arithmetic
- Variable workload: playback, resolution, hardware acceleration, encoding and background activity can change the PC’s draw over time.
- Other equipment: a monitor or peripherals add to the estimate if they remain on; decide whether to count them and measure consistently.
- Slab changes: extra use can push household consumption into a higher slab, so not every added unit necessarily costs the same amount.
- Bill components: fixed charges, duties, subsidies and fuel adjustments mean the energy-charge calculation may not match the change in the final bill.
