Imane Khelif filed a criminal complaint in Paris in August 2024 over alleged online harassment during the Paris Olympics. Her lawyer said J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk were mentioned in it—but the complaint was reported as directed against X or unknown persons, not as a civil lawsuit naming the two as defendants. Being mentioned in a complaint does not mean someone has been charged or found liable or guilty.
What did Imane Khelif file?
Khelif, an Algerian boxer, faced online claims and abuse about her gender eligibility during the Paris 2024 Games. Her Paris-based lawyer, Nabil Boudi, said the complaint was filed at the Paris prosecutor’s online-hate center on Friday, 9 August 2024, alleging aggravated cyber harassment. Variety reported the filing and Boudi’s account; Euronews also summarized the complaint.
The available reporting describes a criminal complaint against X or unknown persons. Boudi said prosecutors were asked to investigate the people named as well as anyone else they considered relevant. The complaint itself is not reproduced in these reports, so its precise wording cannot be independently assessed here.
Why were Rowling and Musk mentioned?
Boudi confirmed to Variety that Rowling and Musk were among those mentioned, telling the publication: “J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others.” Variety reported that Rowling posted about Khelif after her bout with Italy’s Angela Carini and that Musk endorsed a post stating “men don’t belong in women’s sports.” These details describe the social-media context reported at the time; they are not proof of the complaint’s allegations.

What is known about the complaint’s later status?
The public sources cited here do not establish whether Khelif’s 2024 complaint later led to charges, a court hearing, dismissal, or another disposition. That lack of a verified outcome should not be read as proof that the complaint was closed or remains active.

In 2026, the Paris prosecutor’s office announced a search at X’s French offices and voluntary interview summonses for Musk and former chief executive Linda Yaccarino. The prosecutor said that investigation began in January 2025 after separate reports and was later expanded to include concerns involving Grok.
