LAPD announced the arrests of two people in May 2024 over a December 31, 2023 confrontation involving actor Ian Ziering and minibike riders on Hollywood Boulevard. Police described separate booking allegations and said the case would be sent to prosecutors for filing consideration—not that criminal charges had been filed. A June 2026 report said Jacob Hernandez was never charged and that his civil lawsuit against Ziering was dismissed by agreement; the available reporting does not establish the final criminal outcome for the other arrestee.
What happened on New Year’s Eve?
The confrontation took place around 3 p.m. on December 31, 2023, on the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles’s Hollywood Entertainment District. LAPD said it began between a motorist and a minibike rider over possible damage to the motorist’s vehicle. According to the department, three or four more riders then joined and assaulted the motorist, before riders vandalized the vehicle while the motorist’s 10-year-old child remained in the front seat. LAPD said neither the motorist nor the child sustained serious injuries. LAPD’s May 21, 2024 release identifies Ziering as the victim.
Contemporaneous Los Angeles Times reporting described video that appeared to show Ziering shove a rider before other people joined the altercation. Ziering said he got out of his car to assess possible damage after a rider approached aggressively. In a statement reported January 2, he said: “In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.” The police account and Ziering’s statement are accounts of a fast-moving confrontation, not findings by a court.
Who was arrested, and what were the allegations?
LAPD said detectives used witness-recorded video and additional witness information to identify and arrest two people on May 21, 2024. The department named them as Jacob Esteban Hernandez, then 20, and Angie Teresa Guizar, then 40. The booking allegations and bail amounts announced by police were:

These were booking allegations and bail figures stated in the police release; they do not establish guilt. LAPD said it would present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. That is a referral for prosecutors to consider whether to file charges, not an announcement that charges were filed.
Were criminal charges filed?
A June 2026 MyNewsLA report said Hernandez’s civil complaint stated that he had been arrested in May 2024 but never charged. That report does not establish the final criminal disposition for Guizar, and the available reporting does not provide a complete later criminal case history for both people. An arrest, booking allegation, and prosecutor filing decision are distinct steps; the two arrests alone do not show that a prosecution followed.

What happened to Hernandez’s civil lawsuit?
MyNewsLA reported that Hernandez sued Ziering in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging battery, assault, negligence, malicious prosecution, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Hernandez’s account, as described in the report, alleged that Ziering got out of his car and shoved him. Ziering’s sworn declaration described being attacked by several people and said the vehicle’s windshield was smashed with his daughter inside. These are opposing assertions, not findings about what happened.
In June 2026, Hernandez’s attorney asked the court to dismiss the case with prejudice, and the parties agreed to dismiss their claims against each other, according to MyNewsLA. A dismissal with prejudice means the dismissed claims cannot be refiled. The report said media accounts indicated no damages were recovered and quoted Ziering’s manager saying both men wanted to move on. The civil dismissal resolves that lawsuit; it does not determine the truth of every disputed claim about the street confrontation.
