HyunA and DAWN said they began dating in May 2016, made the relationship public in August 2018, and announced their breakup on November 30, 2022. Their matching-ring posts in February 2022 prompted engagement reports, though DAWN later clarified that the ring did not mean they had an immediate wedding plan.
When did HyunA and DAWN start dating?
HyunA later said she and DAWN began dating in May 2016, after she got to know him while he was a trainee. The pair’s relationship grew alongside their work in music. In an interview reported by Yonhap News Agency on August 3, 2018, HyunA said, “We started dating in May 2016 after I got to know E’Dawn while he was a trainee.”
When did they confirm the relationship publicly?
HyunA and DAWN confirmed their relationship in August 2018, saying they had been together for two years. The disclosure followed an initial denial by their agency, Cube Entertainment. They said they chose to be honest with fans, explaining: “We know this would result in some kind of labelling, but we thought it would be hard to look straight into the eyes of our fans (without being honest).” The couple also worked together in the project group Triple H.
What did their matching rings mean?
In February 2022, the pair posted matching rings on social media. DAWN wrote “MARRY ME,” and HyunA replied, “Of course, it’s a yes.” The posts were presented publicly as an engagement-style announcement, as reported by CNA.
