Hush Hush is worth considering if you enjoy polished ensemble dramas and can tolerate a mystery whose investigative logic and payoff are less convincing than its cast. The seven-episode Hindi series brings together a strong group of performers, but the story does not always give them a suitably tight thriller to inhabit.
What is Hush Hush about?
Set among affluent friends in Gurugram, Hush Hush begins after a dangerous party encounter and a suspected killing. Inspector Geeta Tehlan investigates as lies, blackmail and the women’s shared history complicate the case. The seven-episode first season was released on September 22, 2022, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
The ensemble includes Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, Shahana Goswami, Kritika Kamra, Karishma Tanna and Ayesha Jhulka. Prime Video credits Tanuja Chandra, Kopal Naithani and Ashish Pandey as directors. The series shifts between past and present, widening the mystery beyond the immediate police investigation.
Do the performances carry the series?
For much of its run, the cast is the clearest reason to keep watching. The friends’ relationships give the story warmth and tension that the procedural elements do not consistently supply. In her September 2022 review for Scroll.in, Deepa Gahlot describes the performances as effective and notes a “sort of sisterly chemistry” when the women are together.

Chawla’s role is a particular case of promise and limitation: Gahlot argues that the actor is given too little to do, while praising her emotional confrontation scene. That moment suggests the depth the show might have reached with more substantial material for its central performers.
Where does the mystery fall short?
The premise offers plenty to work with: a possible murder, a group with secrets, and an investigator trying to sort truth from self-protection. The problem is that suspense depends on characters behaving credibly as well as on revelations arriving at the right time. Gahlot points to a scene in which evidence, including DNA, is left at a possible crime scene without an earnest investigator calling a forensic team. Such lapses make the case harder to take seriously.

- Trouble's Looming: This horror mystery has an extended lakehouse vacation cut short when Ryan discovers his wife Monica dead. Investigate the crime scene and deduce who killed her.
The movement between timelines and the widening trail of secrets can also leave the narrative feeling scattered rather than intricately plotted. The Indian Express review calls the seven-episode series a missed opportunity with an unsatisfying payoff; Hindustan Times similarly describes a promising premise undermined by meandering execution. Their overall judgments support a common reservation about the series’ construction, though the detailed observations here are limited to those summaries.
What did critics think?
The available critical reactions are divided, not a reliable measure of broad consensus. Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 1 page lists two critic reviews and fewer than 50 audience ratings. Decider’s Radhika Menon praises the plotting and character work, describing the series as “well-plotted and filled with nuanced characters and storytelling.” News9 Live’s Poulomi Das gives the opposite verdict, calling it “a misfire in every sense of the word.” With such a small sample, those opinions are best read as contrasting responses rather than a settled verdict.

Choose Hush Hush for its ensemble and polished atmosphere, not for a consistently persuasive police procedural. Viewers drawn to complicated friendships, secrets and a women-led drama may find enough in the performances to stay engaged. If airtight investigation and a satisfying mystery payoff are the main attractions, its logic gaps and uneven plotting are likely to frustrate.
