A reported change in Yoshihiro Togashi’s work priorities has renewed hopes for Hunter x Hunter, but it is not a confirmed announcement of a new chapter. An October 5 community post links to an X post attributed to Togashi and offers unofficial translations; the original post could not be accessed, so both the wording and its intended scope remain uncertain.
What the reported update says—and what it does not
According to the unofficial translations included in the October 5 r/HunterXHunter discussion, Togashi intends to complete requests he has already accepted, decline future assignments with deadlines, focus on his own manuscript, and say when he resumes. Those points are a community post’s account of an attributed X post, not verified verbatim wording.

The phrase about prioritizing his own manuscript has prompted fans to wonder whether that means a renewed focus on Hunter x Hunter. The accessible post does not establish that the manuscript is exclusively the manga, that Togashi has resumed work on it, or that a chapter is scheduled. Readers in the discussion also raise the possibility that he may be taking a break from everything; the available information does not settle that question.
What the official chapter listing confirms
VIZ’s official chapter page currently lists Chapter 420 with a date of September 6, 2026, after Chapters 411–419, dated from June through August 2026. The page does not give a later chapter date or announce a future schedule. It also identifies Togashi as the creator and links to official Shonen Jump chapter access and MANGA Plus for the latest free chapters available in a reader’s location.

There was an earlier, separate return announcement: ORICON reported on June 21, 2026, that a new chapter was announced for Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 31, released June 29. That June announcement provides context for the recent chapter run; it does not verify an October return date or confirm what the reported change in Togashi’s priorities means.
