The October 5, 2026 message has not been independently verified: its English wording comes from a community post linking to Togashi’s X account, whose original page was inaccessible. It does not announce that Hunter x Hunter is ending or set a date for its next chapter.
What Togashi’s October 5 update reportedly said
A post on the Hunter x Hunter subreddit links to a message on Togashi’s X account and reproduces a translation. In that rendering, Togashi says he plans to complete requests he had already accepted, turn down future work requests that come with deadlines, and give priority to his own manuscript. He also reportedly said he would announce when he resumes work.
Because the original X post could not be accessed, those details should be treated as a community-reproduced translation, not verified verbatim wording. The message describes Togashi’s stated health concerns; it does not establish a diagnosis, retirement, or a decision to stop working on Hunter x Hunter.
Does this set a date for Hunter x Hunter’s return?
No publication date for the next chapter was established in the latest dated schedule report available here. On September 6, 2026, ORICON reported that Chapter 420 appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump issue released September 7 and that the next publication date would be announced once decided. ORICON also said Togashi had posted on September 1 that the manuscript for Chapter 427 was complete. A completed manuscript is progress, not a release announcement. ORICON’s September 6 update therefore provides publication context, not a date implied by the October 5 health update.

Why the series no longer follows a weekly schedule
Hunter x Hunter is not currently being published on a traditional weekly schedule. In December 2022, the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial team said it had discussed Togashi’s health and other circumstances with him and would publish the series in a format other than weekly serialization. ORICON reproduced that notice in its September 2026 report.
The manga returned in June 2026 with Chapter 411, after roughly 18 months since Chapter 410, published December 9, 2024. ORICON described the June event as a return with a new chapter, while noting it was not presented as a conventional restart of weekly serialization. That context helps distinguish a new chapter from a return to a fixed weekly timetable. ORICON’s June 21, 2026 report covers that return.
What is known about Togashi’s health—and what is not
The update attributes the work decision to Togashi’s physical and mental health, but the reported translation gives no diagnosis or further medical detail. ORICON has previously described Togashi’s severe back pain and reproduced his account of how it affected his ability to work and daily life. That earlier account is background, not evidence of the specific condition behind the October 2026 message.
