Sting won by submission, but the finish took an unexpected turn: Hogan attacked his own Immortal allies and helped Sting. A Temple University account recalls thunderous applause and chants for Hogan—not a verified crowd reaction of “shock.”
What happened in Hogan’s final televised match?
The match took place at Bound for Glory, TNA’s biggest annual pay-per-view, at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in Philadelphia. Temple reports that 3,585 fans attended. Hogan and Sting had been involved in a long-running storyline feud, and their match ended with a shift in Hogan’s allegiance.
Wrestling historian and Temple adjunct faculty member Michael Cavacini, who attended the event, says Sting made Hogan submit in the Scorpion Deathlock. Members of the Immortal faction then attacked Sting. Hogan turned on the group and helped Sting, completing a storyline change from antagonist to ally.
Cavacini recalled that “the crowd blew the roof off the Liacouras Center with their thunderous applause” after Hogan’s turn. He also remembered chants of “Hogan! Hogan! Hogan!” These are his firsthand recollections, published by Temple University in 2025; they describe a loud, positive response but do not establish that fans were broadly or measurably “in shock.” Temple University’s account of the match

Was the 2011 match Hogan’s last match?
It was his last televised match, but later reporting identifies a subsequent in-ring appearance. On January 26, 2012, Hogan reportedly wrestled in a six-man tag match at a TNA live event in the United Kingdom. He teamed with Sting and James Storm against Bully Ray, Kurt Angle and Bobby Roode. The match was not televised, according to The Times of India and Fightful.
| Meaning of “last” | Match | What the sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Last televised match | Hogan vs. Sting, Bound for Glory, October 16, 2011 | Temple identifies it as Hogan’s final televised match. |
| Later reported in-ring performance | Six-man tag at a TNA UK live event, January 26, 2012 | The Times of India reports the match; Fightful says the footage was never televised. |
So the answer depends on what “final” means: Sting was Hogan’s opponent in the final televised match, while the reported January 2012 house-show match came later. The available accounts do not establish current streaming availability or rights for the later footage.
