The Idea of You began streaming worldwide on Prime Video on May 2, 2024. For U.S. viewers, Prime Video is the clearest confirmed option: the film is listed with Prime membership access, a UHD rental displayed at $3.99, and a UHD purchase displayed at $14.99. Those prices and streaming rights can change, so check the title page before paying.
Where to watch The Idea of You in the U.S.
Prime Video is the primary confirmed U.S. home for the film. Its official title page lists streaming through Prime membership as well as separate rental and purchase options. The options displayed can vary by location, account, device, and subscription status; make sure the page says the movie is included with your membership before pressing play.
A U.S. availability snapshot from JustWatch dated July 30, 2026 also listed Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus, but it gave an availability end date of August 1, 2026. That date has passed, so do not count on Peacock unless the Peacock title page confirms the film is currently in its catalog. JustWatch also listed rental or purchase through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home; check each storefront for live availability and price.
These listings concern the United States. Streaming rights differ by country, so viewers elsewhere should search their local Prime Video catalog rather than assume the U.S. options apply.

Which viewing option is best for you?
| Viewer | Likely best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Already has Prime | Stream through Prime Video if the title is included in the account’s catalog. | Confirm the page says it is included, rather than showing only a rental or purchase price. |
| Watching once, without Prime | Rent the film; the Prime Video listing displayed a $3.99 UHD rental. | Check the checkout page for the current price, resolution, and rental viewing window. |
| Plans to rewatch | Consider a digital purchase; the Prime Video listing displayed a $14.99 UHD purchase. | Digital purchase is a license tied to the retailer account, subject to that service’s terms. |
| Already subscribes to Peacock | Use Peacock only if its title page currently confirms availability. | A July 30, 2026 JustWatch snapshot listed an end date of August 1, 2026. |
| Outside the U.S. | Check the local Prime Video listing and local storefronts. | Catalogs, formats, and prices vary by territory. |
Do you need Amazon Prime?
No, not necessarily. The film is listed as included with an eligible Prime membership, but Prime Video also presents rental and purchase routes separately. A viewer who only wants to watch once may prefer a rental over starting a recurring subscription. A purchase can suit someone who expects to revisit the film, though it does not provide a physical copy.
The Prime Video page displayed a free-trial route when checked for this listing, but trial eligibility and duration depend on the offer and the customer’s account history. Confirm the terms at signup, including whether the trial converts to a paid subscription and when billing begins. Do not assume an offer is available to existing or previous subscribers.

How much does it cost?
The U.S. Prime Video title page displayed a $3.99 UHD rental and a $14.99 UHD purchase. These are observed listing prices, not guaranteed or permanent rates; the price may change, and another format or account may show a different amount. The rental is the lower-cost one-time route at those displayed prices. Review the checkout notice for the applicable playback period before renting.
No current Prime membership price is established here. Amazon’s May 2, 2024 announcement quoted monthly and annual Prime prices at that time, but those historical figures should not be treated as current. Check Amazon’s Prime page for the price and terms offered to your account today.

When did the film come out?
The Idea of You premiered at SXSW on March 16, 2024, then made its public global streaming debut on Prime Video on May 2, 2024. Amazon described the launch as a Prime Video exclusive; that describes its premiere arrangement, not every later licensing deal. See Amazon’s release announcement.

What is The Idea of You about?
Anne Hathaway plays Solène, a 40-year-old single mother who becomes involved with Hayes Campbell, a 24-year-old singer in the fictional boy band August Moon, played by Nicholas Galitzine. Michael Showalter directed the romantic drama, which is based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name. The standard Prime Video listing gives the runtime as about 1 hour 51 minutes.
Captions, audio description, and interpreted versions
The retrieved Prime Video listing showed English closed captions, audio description, and multiple subtitle and dubbed-audio languages. It also listed separate versions with American Sign Language and British Sign Language interpretation; those versions were listed at about 1 hour 57 minutes, roughly six minutes longer than the standard listing. These options may not appear in every region or account. On Prime Video, search the title’s other versions and check the audio and subtitle menu before playback.

Checking Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+
The confirmed primary U.S. home is Prime Video. The available listings do not establish current availability on Netflix, Hulu, or Disney+. Because licensing changes, check the service’s own catalog before signing up rather than relying on an old article or search-result snippet.
