Friday the 13th movies in chronological order
Watch the feature films in this sequence. The list follows the release-order chronology used by CableTV.com and JustWatch’s UK guide.
- Friday the 13th (1980)

- Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
- Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984)
- Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1985)
- Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
- Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988)
- Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)
- Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
- Jason X (2002)

Why release order is the practical chronology
The series has no prequels, so there is no earlier-set film to move ahead of the 1980 original. Release order also lets you encounter the story as audiences did, without implying that every installment fits a single exact timeline. The 2009 Friday the 13th is a later reboot-era entry, not another name for the original.
The 1980 film begins the series, but Jason is not its killer. That distinction is one reason it is worth starting with the original rather than jumping to a later film based on the franchise’s best-known character.
What belongs in the movie list—and what does not
The 12 entries above are the feature films. Friday the 13th: The Series is a separate television anthology, not another Jason movie; CableTV.com describes it as a show about cursed objects and unrelated to the films. See its movie-order guide for that distinction.

Streaming catalogs vary by country and change over time, so check a current availability listing for your location and confirm that it includes the specific film you want. JustWatch’s guide is UK-oriented and reports availability checks on 7 and 8 October 2026; treat it as a dated UK reference, not a worldwide catalog.
Paramount+’s Friday the 13th streaming page lists the first eight films—the 1980s entries—and warns that availability is subject to change. It does not establish that all 12 films are included.
Streaming, digital copies and discs
- Subscription streaming: Check the service’s country-specific catalog and verify each title; a subscription listing for some films does not mean the full series is available.
- Digital rental or purchase: Check whether the store offers rental or ownership for each film and which version is included.
- Physical media: Paramount’s official pages identify the original film’s 4K UHD release and list DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD formats. Check the edition and collection contents before buying: Paramount Pictures’ original-film page and Paramount Movies’ format listing.
Current prices are not established here, so compare the cost of a recurring subscription with one-time rentals, digital purchases or a disc edition that contains the films you want.
