How to watch Instagram Live on a computer

Open Instagram.com in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.

Sign in to the account that follows the creator.

Look for the creator’s Live ring in the story tray, on their profile, or in your home feed, then click it to open the broadcast.

Use the web player to watch and, where available, join the chat or send reactions.

This desktop viewing flow is described in a current Instagram Live on PC walkthrough. You need an active broadcast, a computer, a supported browser, and an Instagram account. You do not need a webcam, microphone, stream key, OBS, or a browser extension just to watch.
What to check if you can’t see a Live

Confirm that the creator is live now; a Live ring appears while a broadcast is active.

Refresh Instagram once and check the creator’s profile or your feed as well as the story tray.

Make sure your browser is up to date and that you are signed in to the account that follows the creator.

Those checks address common visibility problems, but Instagram’s behavior is not established as identical for every account, browser, or country. If the Live ring remains missing, availability may depend on account state, rollout, or region; consult current Instagram Help for account-specific guidance.
Watching Instagram Live versus broadcasting from a PC
Watching is a browser-only task. Going Live from a computer is a separate creator workflow that uses Instagram Live Producer and streaming software; it is not started by clicking a simple desktop camera button.

For the broadcast workflow, see the setup guidance from Streamlabs and Restream. Streamlabs describes Talk Studio as a browser-based option and recommends vertical 9:16 video at 720×1280 and 30 fps, with a video bitrate of 2,250–6,000 Kbps. Those are its setup recommendations, not requirements for watching or universal Instagram specifications. Restream also documents connecting Instagram Live Producer to a multistreaming workflow.

No. The reported public-account and 1,000-follower threshold concerns creator access to broadcasting, not ordinary viewing. Insta360’s 2026 guide, Restream’s 2026 guide, Streamlabs’ guide updated in 2025, and a 2025 TechCrunch report describe that threshold for going Live. Streamlabs additionally identifies professional-account access as relevant to stream keys. Treat those as creator eligibility details, not conditions for opening someone else’s broadcast.

If you intend to host, the guides’ workflow is to open Create > Live video on Instagram’s desktop site, set the audience, copy the stream key, and paste it into compatible streaming software. A webcam is optional for viewing but may be useful for a creator setup; Insta360’s 2026 guide names the Link 2 and Link 2C as webcam options.
