Yes—you can watch Hulu on a Mac without a dedicated macOS app. Open Hulu.com in a supported browser, with Safari the best first choice and Chrome the practical fallback. Hulu’s current computer guidance lists macOS 10.15 or later and current browser versions. Hulu + Live TV also works through a Mac browser.
The instructions and U.S. prices below reflect information available in 2026. Hulu can change requirements, plan terms, content rights, and promotional pricing, so the live checkout page remains authoritative.
Can you watch Hulu on a Mac?
Yes. Sign in at Hulu.com using Safari, Chrome, or another currently supported browser. A separate Hulu desktop application is not required for normal Mac viewing, and you should avoid unofficial “Hulu for Mac” downloads.
Hulu’s Live TV service also lists viewing through Hulu.com on a Mac or PC browser. Your subscription controls what you can watch; the Mac is simply a supported screen.

Hulu’s current computer requirements specify macOS 10.15 or later and current versions of supported browsers. Older Hulu pages mention earlier macOS releases, but those should be treated as stale rather than the current U.S. requirement. See Hulu’s computer requirements.
What you need before pressing Play
- A U.S. Hulu account and an active subscription.
- A Mac that can run macOS 10.15 or later.
- The latest available Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.
- A stable internet connection.
- If you use a monitor or television, a digital, HDCP-compliant display and cable.
Update macOS through Apple menu → System Settings → General → Software Update. Safari is updated with macOS rather than through a separate Safari installer.
Which browser is best for Hulu on macOS?
Safari: the best first browser
Safari is the most sensible starting point on a Mac because it is built into macOS, appears in Hulu’s current support requirements, and is the browser Hulu guidance specifically points Mac users toward for some external-display and HDCP problems. This is a practical recommendation, not a claim that Safari wins every speed, quality, or battery test.
Content blockers, privacy extensions, VPNs, stale cookies, or restrictive website settings can still prevent sign-in or playback. If Safari fails, move to Chrome rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

Chrome: the best fallback
Hulu lists the latest Google Chrome as supported. Chrome is useful when Safari has a title-specific playback problem, a login failure, or an extension conflict, and comparing the same title in both browsers helps identify a browser-specific fault. Hulu documentation does not establish that Chrome provides better video quality or fewer advertisements.
Firefox and Edge
Hulu’s newer requirements page lists the latest Firefox, but an older Hulu troubleshooting page says Firefox on macOS is unsupported. Because those documents conflict, use current Firefox only if Hulu accepts it; switch to Safari or Chrome if an unsupported-browser message appears.
Hulu’s current requirements list Microsoft Edge for Windows, not clearly for macOS. Do not assume that every Chromium-based browser is supported simply because Chrome is.
How to subscribe to Hulu on a Mac
- Open Safari or Chrome.
- Go to the official U.S. entry page at Hulu.com/welcome.
- Compare the standalone, Disney bundle, and Live TV choices shown at checkout.
- Select a plan and create an account, or sign in when Hulu prompts you to use an existing Disney/Hulu account.
- Enter payment information and complete the purchase.
- Return to Hulu.com, choose Log In, select your profile, pick a title, and press Play.
Button names and account screens can change, so follow the labels displayed in the live signup flow.

How to watch Hulu + Live TV on a Mac
Open Hulu.com in Safari or Chrome, sign in, and select a live channel or program. Hulu’s Live TV lineup is location-sensitive: local stations and regional sports depend on your home ZIP code, rights agreements, and blackouts. A channel available in one market may not be available in another, and some features can differ by device.
Fix Hulu when it will not play on your Mac
- Install available macOS and browser updates.
- Reload Hulu with Command-R, then quit and reopen the browser.
- Disable ad blockers, privacy extensions, and other browser add-ons temporarily.
- Clear Hulu’s cookies and site data, then sign in again.
- Temporarily test without a VPN or security software that filters web traffic.
- Try the same title in the latest Safari.
- If Safari fails, test the latest Chrome.
- Disconnect external monitors, docks, adapters, and televisions and test on the Mac’s built-in display.
- Restart the Mac, router, and modem if other streaming pages also buffer or fail.
- Contact Hulu support if both supported browsers fail across multiple titles.
Apple’s Safari troubleshooting guidance also recommends checking extensions, cookies, cache, website settings, VPNs, and network conditions.

Black screen, sound without video, or poor quality
When Hulu loads but video is black, or audio plays without an image, first compare Safari and Chrome and disable extensions. A VPN, security filter, stale site data, or a graphics/display-output conflict can affect protected video. Do not assume that changing an unverified hardware-acceleration setting is an official Hulu fix.
Quality limitations are especially likely when an external display is involved. Hulu’s guidance identifies HDCP copy protection as a factor in successful playback and quality. HDMI, DVI-D, and DisplayPort are digital connection examples; analog VGA can cause restrictions. A noncompliant cable, adapter, monitor, or second screen can fail the protection check even when the Mac itself is supported.
Fixing HDCP and external-monitor problems
- Close Hulu and disconnect every external screen.
- Play the title on the Mac’s built-in display.
- If that works, reconnect one monitor or television at a time.
- Replace VGA or questionable adapters with a digital, HDCP-compliant connection.
- Test another cable, dock, or display if the failure follows one component.
- On macOS, try Safari first for the external-display test.
Mixed-compliance multi-monitor setups can fail because one screen or cable does not satisfy HDCP, even if another screen is compliant. Hulu does not document one universal resolution for every plan, title, browser, and display combination, so do not treat a quality option as a guaranteed 1080p, 4K, or HDR promise.
