1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse chapters to help viewers find specific moments in a stream archive, then put the archive and edited highlights in a public playlist that gives them a clear next video to watch. This improves navigation; it does not guarantee viewers will continue watching. For a genuine 24/7 broadcast, plan for archive continuity first: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Plan the archive before you plan the funnel
A 24/7 stream is not a single tidy video from a viewer’s perspective. It may contain long stretches, recurring programs, or moments worth revisiting. Chapters help people navigate a recording; highlights offer a shorter way in; a playlist connects those pieces. But YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an automatic archive, so do not rely on one continuous YouTube recording as the sole record of your broadcast.
Choose what to preserve
- Full archive: preserves the broader context, but can demand a large time commitment and may be difficult to manage as one very long video.
- Edited highlights: get viewers to selected moments sooner, but require editing and can omit context around a scene or subject.
- Shorter archive segments: can make playlists and chapter maintenance easier, but YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe how often to split a continuous stream.
For a continuous broadcast, arrange a local recording backup. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive. An external SSD is one possible storage choice, not a YouTube requirement; size any storage around your recording bitrate, how long you want to retain material, and your backup plan.
Keep a moment log
During the broadcast, note useful timestamps and a few words about what happens at each point. This is an editorial workflow, not a YouTube requirement. A contemporaneous log makes it easier to add accurate chapters and select highlights later.

Make the stream easy to find before it starts
If the broadcast is an event or has a scheduled start, YouTube’s promotion guidance recommends sharing the live link at least 48 hours beforehand. You can also create a Live section on the channel to display upcoming and live events. These are recommendations, not requirements, and are less applicable to a stream that is already running continuously.
Add useful chapters to the archive
Once you have an archive or a shorter published segment, add timestamps and titles in the video description. YouTube’s manual chapter criteria are specific: begin at 00:00, include at least three timestamps in ascending order, and make each chapter at least 10 seconds long.

- In YouTube Studio, open the relevant video and edit its description.
- At the point in the description where you want the chapter list, enter the first timestamp as
00:00followed by a concise title. - Add at least two more timestamp-title pairs in chronological order. Check that every chapter covers at least 10 seconds.
- Save the description, then check the published video’s progress bar and chapter titles to confirm the sections are navigable.
For example, a documentary stream might use labels such as “00:00 Opening and context,” “12:40 Field interview,” and “28:15 Archive footage discussion.” Those are examples of viewer-oriented naming, not prescribed formats. Prefer labels that tell someone what is happening rather than vague titles such as “Part 1.” Viewers can select chapters from the progress bar or the chapter title.
Build a playlist that gives viewers a sensible next step
YouTube recommends organizing live archives and highlight clips into playlists after an event. A clear playlist turns separate pieces into a browsable path rather than leaving viewers to guess what to watch next.

- Make the archive public if that suits your channel and audience. YouTube says a public archive can increase the reach of future streams; that is platform guidance, not a guaranteed result.
- Create or choose a public playlist with a name that identifies the stream, series, or subject.
- Add the archive and relevant edited highlights. Keep unrelated uploads out so the playlist’s purpose is obvious.
- Use the playlist controls to arrange the videos. One useful editorial sequence is an orientation or best starting point first, followed by the full archive and then shorter highlights. This is a suggested viewing path, not an official ranking rule.
- Write a brief playlist description that explains its connection to the stream and points viewers toward the next item they may want to watch.
Playlist order and descriptions help people understand the collection, but they do not guarantee a particular recommendation or placement by YouTube.
Choose the right entry point for different viewers
| Content | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Full archive with chapters | Viewers who want context or a particular moment in the complete broadcast | Preserves more context, but can be a long watch and relies on a usable archive. |
| Edited highlight | Viewers who want a shorter route to a specific subject or moment | Gets to selected material faster, but takes editing and may leave out surrounding context. |
| Playlist of archive and highlights | Viewers who want a clear sequence or more than one way into the material | Requires deliberate naming and ordering; it does not ensure continued viewing. |

- Chapters do not appear: check that the first timestamp is 00:00, there are at least three timestamps, they are in ascending order, and every section is at least 10 seconds. Recheck the saved description on the published video.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use a local recording backup and publish useful portions or segments rather than treating a single automatic archive as your only copy.
- The playlist feels hard to follow: check that its title and description explain the connection to the stream, remove unrelated videos, and reorder it so the intended starting point comes first.
- Viewers cannot find the live event in advance: for a scheduled event, share its link ahead of time; YouTube recommends at least 48 hours. Consider using a Live section to display upcoming and live events.
YouTube Studio labels and controls can change, so use the current video-description and playlist controls in Studio if the interface differs from these directions.
