To use Live3D for VTubing, run VTuber Maker, connect a webcam, turn on tracking, calibrate your avatar if its movements look off, then send the app’s virtual camera to your streaming or video-chat software. The core workflow is webcam → tracking → avatar → virtual-camera output. The manual also describes voice-based lip-sync, a background-free widget, and quick actions. Menu names and compatibility can change, so confirm the labels in your current version.
What “Live 3D” means here
“Live 3D” refers to Live3D and, in particular, its VTuber Maker tracking application. It is not the same as Live2D Cubism. VTube Studio’s maintainer documents support for Live2D Cubism models, not 3D VRoid/VRM models; its setup instructions are therefore not the right guide for tracking a 3D avatar. Install and launch the app
Use the current VTuber Maker installer and follow its on-screen setup. A Streamlabs walkthrough published March 6, 2023 described downloading and extracting files, opening the app, creating an account, and confirming an email address; those account and installation details may have changed, so rely on the current installer rather than assuming that older sequence still applies. Choose your webcam and enable tracking
Connect a webcam and enable tracking in VTuber Maker. The version 1.0 manual describes face, head, and upper-body tracking from webcam input. If the avatar does not follow your natural resting expression or posture, use the app’s Calibrate control while sitting or standing as you intend to appear on stream.

Check framing and lighting
Position the camera so your face is visible and you can move naturally without leaving the frame. Even lighting helps the tracking application see your face; avoid a bright light or window directly behind you if it makes your face hard to see. These are practical setup checks, not a published VTuber Maker webcam specification. The manual does not establish a required webcam resolution, frame rate, or specific camera model.

Enable voice-based lip-sync if you want it
VTuber Maker’s manual describes a separate Audio Based Lipsync option that processes voice in real time to animate the avatar’s mouth. Turn it on if you want voice-driven mouth movement; it is not a speech-to-text or transcription feature.

Choose an avatar and scene
Select an avatar and presentation in the app, then check how they appear in its preview. The March 2023 Streamlabs walkthrough described avatar choices, rooms and backgrounds, green-screen or plain-color options, poses, and interactions. Those are historical descriptions, not confirmation of what is currently included or available, and its old plan prices and library counts should not be treated as current. Use the options visible in your installed version.
If you plan to remove or replace a background in your broadcast software, check the result before going live: a keyed background depends on a consistent color and lighting, while a plain background may be simpler when those conditions are unavailable.

Send the avatar to streaming or chat software

Enable virtual-camera output
The VTuber Maker manual calls this feature “Virtual Barodcast” (spelled that way in the manual). Find the current virtual-broadcast or virtual-camera control in your version and enable it. The manual says virtual broadcast requires driver support; if the option is missing or does not start, check the app’s current installation and driver guidance.

Select the VTuber Maker camera in the receiving app
Open your streaming or video-chat software’s camera or video-source settings and choose VTuber Maker Virtual Camera, if that is the label shown by your installed version. Do not select your physical webcam in the receiving app if you want it to show the avatar output instead.

Check the scene before broadcasting
Preview the receiving app and verify that it shows the avatar, that tracking responds, and that framing and background look right. Test privately or in a private scene before starting a public broadcast. If the receiving app cannot see the virtual camera, confirm that virtual output is enabled, the required driver support is present, and the correct camera is selected.
Optional: widget and quick actions
The manual describes a background-free, always-on-top avatar widget and a Quick Action Panel for triggering actions. It also says key combinations can be found or adjusted in the options. Use the widget when you need the avatar as a separate on-screen element; use quick actions for controls you want to trigger during a session. Exact labels and available actions may differ in current releases.

Webcam choice and tracking expectations
A webcam is the directly relevant hardware for the manual’s VTuber Maker workflow, but the manual does not compare camera models or establish a minimum specification. You do not need a premium model on the evidence available here; choose a webcam that gives a clear, stable view in your room and confirm its compatibility with the current app.
VTube Studio’s maintainer gives 1280×720 or higher and 15–30 fps as webcam-tracking guidance for VTube Studio specifically. Those figures are not VTuber Maker requirements and should not be transferred to Live3D without confirmation. See the VTube Studio requirements page.
Troubleshooting
- The avatar barely moves or does not follow you: Confirm tracking is enabled, the intended webcam is available, and your face is visible. Recalibrate with Calibrate if the avatar’s neutral pose does not match yours.
- The mouth does not move with your voice: Check whether Audio Based Lipsync is enabled and whether the app is receiving the intended audio input. This setting is separate from webcam tracking.
- The virtual camera is missing in the streaming app: Turn on VTuber Maker’s virtual output, check the driver-support requirement noted in the manual, and reopen the receiving app’s camera list. Verify the current feature label in your version.
- The receiving app shows your real camera instead of the avatar: Select the VTuber Maker virtual camera as the app’s camera source, rather than the physical webcam.
- The avatar or background is poorly framed: Adjust your webcam position and in-app scene or avatar framing, then recheck the receiving software’s preview. A background that does not separate cleanly may need a more consistent backdrop and lighting.
