To broadcast a prerecorded video on YouTube Live without leaving a computer running, upload the video to a cloud encoder, connect the service to your YouTube channel, then start or schedule the stream. YouTube receives the video through an encoder connection; the cloud service hosts that sending process. The exact upload, playlist, and scheduling controls depend on the service.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
  • A video file the chosen service accepts. Check its current supported formats, resolutions, frame rates, file-size limits, and storage allowance before uploading.
  • A cloud encoder account that supports prerecorded media. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streams; its workflow and feature descriptions are Gyre’s own, not guarantees about all cloud encoders. See YouTube’s encoder help page and Gyre’s service information.

A cloud encoder is useful when you do not want a local computer and internet connection to send the stream continuously. Check the provider’s storage, simultaneous-stream limits, scheduling, channel-connection method, recovery behavior, and current pricing before choosing it.

Set up the prerecorded YouTube stream

  1. Enable live streaming. If live streaming is not enabled on the channel, complete YouTube’s activation process first. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  2. Prepare the video. Upload the file or files to the cloud encoder. In Gyre’s documented workflow, you upload videos to its storage and arrange them into a playlist; playlist and loop controls are service-specific.
  3. Connect the channel. A service may ask you to authorize your YouTube account or enter a stream URL and stream key. For the stream-key method, open YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create a stream or choose Schedule Stream in the Manage tab. Copy the stream URL and key into the matching fields in the cloud encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
  4. Choose whether to go live now or schedule. YouTube scheduling can give you a shareable watch URL and let viewers set reminders. If you schedule in YouTube and use an encoder, start the cloud encoder and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room before clicking Go live. Some cloud services also provide their own scheduling controls; follow the provider’s instructions and confirm the YouTube event is configured as intended.
  5. Verify the broadcast. Check the YouTube preview and stream-health information, and confirm the correct event is receiving the intended video. YouTube’s API documentation describes stream status and health data for API-managed workflows; a typical operator can use the Live Control Room and the cloud service’s own status display.
  6. End the stream deliberately. Stop the stream in the cloud service and use YouTube’s End Stream control when applicable. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.

Stream URL, key, and RTMPS details

YouTube’s encoder instructions use a Live server URL and stream key. The key can be reused with prior stream settings, but keep it private and replace it if it is exposed. Some cloud services connect through YouTube account authorization instead, so use the method the service actually provides.

Google documents RTMPS, which carries RTMP over an SSL connection, as an ingestion option. Its requirements include a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint, the RTMPS scheme, and port 443. Use the endpoint supplied for your particular stream or integration rather than copying an example address from an unrelated setup. See Google’s Live Streaming API documentation.

One-line reason: it stays on from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. Its plans include one always-on stream per slot, pooled storage, looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. See StreamNeo for current details.

AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder YouTube lists this as a hardware encoder; optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is physical hardware, not a cloud service. Check the current device and optional-feature details with the manufacturer.
Desktop encoder software YouTube’s general encoder workflow supports software that sends video using the stream URL and key. The computer and its network connection must remain available for the stream. The generic stream-key workflow does not itself provide a cloud playlist scheduler.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off while the cloud loops the uploaded video. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home.
  • Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is provided if YouTube drops the stream.

Common problems and fixes

  • No preview appears in Live Control Room: Confirm the encoder is running, the correct YouTube event is selected, and the stream URL and key were entered in the right fields. Recheck that the key belongs to the intended channel and event.
  • YouTube does not allow the channel to go live yet: Complete live-stream activation and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
  • The video will not upload or play: Check the cloud provider’s accepted file formats, resolution, frame rate, file-size and storage limits. These vary by service and may change.
  • The scheduled broadcast is not actually live: For an encoder-based scheduled stream, wait for YouTube’s incoming preview, then select Go live in Live Control Room.
  • The stream stops unexpectedly: Check both the cloud provider’s status and YouTube’s stream-health display. Recovery behavior is provider-specific; do not assume every cloud encoder automatically restarts a dropped stream.

Copyright, archives, and prerecorded content

A prerecorded file is still subject to YouTube’s rules. Use video and music you own or are authorized to broadcast, and check rights for every element in the file. A stream appearing live does not itself establish that the content qualifies for monetization or complies with YouTube policies. Scheduling or looping tools do not change those responsibilities. YouTube’s documentation cited here covers setup and streaming procedures rather than determining whether a particular recording is eligible for monetization.

For a checklist before broadcasting, see StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; consult its current help page for details about your stream and archive handling.
