Tubi is a free, ad-supported streaming service, and its Help Center says it does not offer an ad-free plan or subscription. You can opt out of targeted-ad personalization, but commercial breaks may continue. If you watch Tubi in a desktop browser, a reputable content blocker is the most accessible workaround to try; network-wide tools such as Pi-hole are more advanced and are not guaranteed to remove Tubi’s in-stream video ads.
The short answer: Tubi has no ad-free setting or upgrade
Tubi’s free catalog is funded by advertising. As of 2026, there is no supported “Tubi Premium,” ad-free subscription, or account setting that removes the commercials from Tubi playback.
That applies whether you use Tubi on the web, a Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung or Sony smart TV, PlayStation, Xbox, a phone, or another supported device. Changing the device can change how you access Tubi, but it does not create an ad-free version of the service.
Be cautious of guides that tell you to buy a different streaming stick, change a hidden Tubi setting, or subscribe to a purported Tubi premium tier. Those are not official solutions supported by Tubi’s current service model.

What you can do about personalized advertising
Tubi provides privacy controls that can limit targeted advertising. Depending on the device and your location, available options may include:
- Using Tubi’s privacy opt-out form.
- Enabling Global Privacy Control in a compatible browser or device.
- Turning off advertising personalization in your phone’s operating-system settings.
- Changing an equivalent connected-TV setting, such as Opt out of ads personalization or Interest-based Ads.
These settings address ad targeting and tracking, not the existence of commercials. Tubi explicitly warns that opting out does not stop all advertising. You may see less personalized advertisements, but scheduled ad breaks can still play.
Option 1: Try a content blocker in a desktop browser
If you watch Tubi on a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer, the web browser is the most practical place to experiment with ad blocking. Desktop browsers can run content-blocking extensions, unlike most native smart-TV and streaming-device apps.
One established example is uBlock Origin, an open-source, wide-spectrum content blocker for compatible Chromium-based and Firefox-based browsers. It uses filter lists to block advertising, trackers, pop-ups, and related web resources. Availability and browser support can change, so install extensions only from the browser’s official extension store or the project’s legitimate source.

General setup steps
- Open the official extension store for your desktop browser.
- Search for the legitimate content-blocking extension you intend to use and verify its publisher before installing it.
- Install the extension and restart the browser or reload the Tubi tab.
- Open Tubi and test playback.
- If Tubi plays normally, leave the default settings in place initially rather than adding aggressive third-party filter lists.
This is an experiment, not a guaranteed permanent fix. Tubi can change its website, detect blocking tools, alter how advertisements are delivered, or require resources that a blocker mistakenly filters. A blocker may reduce or skip some advertising in one browser while failing in another.
If Tubi stops playing
Playback problems after installing a blocker usually mean that a required script, video request, authentication request, or advertising-related resource was blocked. Try these steps:
- Open the blocker’s controls for the Tubi site.
- Temporarily disable the blocker for Tubi only.
- Reload the page and sign in again if necessary.
- Clear only the site’s cache or cookies if playback remains stuck.
- Restart the browser and test Tubi before changing additional filter settings.
If disabling the blocker restores playback, you have identified the cause. You can either keep the blocker disabled for Tubi or try less aggressive settings, understanding that doing so may allow some or all commercials to play.
What a browser blocker will not do
A desktop extension applies to Tubi in that browser. It does not automatically affect:

Opening Tubi through a browser on a device that supports a full browser may offer different results, but the native-app experience and browser experience should not be treated as interchangeable.
Option 2: Pi-hole and network-wide DNS filtering
Pi-hole is an open-source DNS sinkhole. When configured as the DNS service for a home network, it can block requests to domains that appear on its blocklists, potentially reducing certain advertisements, trackers, and ancillary requests across multiple devices.
It is possible to run Pi-hole on Linux hardware such as a Raspberry Pi 5 for Pi-hole, along with the appropriate power, storage, network, and configuration components. This is a useful project for technically capable readers who want network-wide DNS filtering—not a reliable Tubi ad-removal product.
Why Pi-hole usually cannot remove all Tubi commercials
DNS filtering works at the domain-request level. It does not inspect and edit the video stream itself. If Tubi delivers the requested program and the commercial through the same service, domain, infrastructure, or stream, blocking that domain could also block the program. A DNS filter cannot reliably determine which portions of a video session are advertisements and which are the content you requested.
Connected-TV advertising research also illustrates the limitations of relying on DNS blocklists for modern streaming advertising. As a result, Pi-hole may block some tracking or supporting requests while leaving Tubi’s in-stream commercial breaks untouched.
Possible side effects
Overly broad DNS lists can cause:
- Tubi buffering or failing to start.
- Missing thumbnails, artwork, or program information.
- Sign-in or account-validation problems.
- Problems in unrelated apps that use a blocked domain.
- Intermittent playback that is difficult to diagnose.
If you try Pi-hole, add changes gradually and keep a record of what you changed. When Tubi breaks, temporarily restore the previous DNS settings or allow the suspected domain, then restart the app or device. Pi-hole is best presented as a privacy and network-filtering project with uncertain effects on Tubi—not as a guaranteed commercial remover.
Should you buy a Roku, Fire TV Stick, or another device?
Not solely to eliminate Tubi ads. Tubi remains ad-supported across its supported platforms. A new streaming device may offer a better remote, faster hardware, a different user interface, or access to a desktop browser in some cases, but switching from a smart-TV app to Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or a console does not unlock ad-free Tubi playback.
Buy a different device only for a separate reason, such as better performance or access to a browser-based viewing setup. Do not treat the hardware purchase as a Tubi ad-free upgrade.

What about PC cleanup or driver tools?
Utilities advertised for Windows cleanup, privacy settings, or driver updates are not solutions for Tubi’s server-delivered commercials. They may be relevant if your computer has a separate performance, browser, graphics-driver, or playback problem, but updating a driver or removing cookies does not create an ad-free Tubi account.

Troubleshooting checklist
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Tubi commercials continue after opting out of personalized ads | This is expected. The privacy setting changes targeting, not all advertising. |
| Tubi will not play after installing a browser blocker | Disable the blocker for Tubi, reload the page, and test again. |
| Tubi fails after changing DNS settings | Restore the previous DNS configuration, restart the app or device, and check whether playback returns. |
| Tubi works in a browser but not on a TV app | That is normal: browser extensions do not automatically apply to native TV apps. |
| You are considering a new streaming stick to remove ads | Do not buy it for that purpose. The new device will still use Tubi’s ad-supported service. |
| Playback remains broken after reversing changes | Restart the device, check the network, reinstall or update the Tubi app if appropriate, and contact Tubi support. |
Which approach should you choose?
- You only want less tracking: Use Tubi’s privacy controls, Global Privacy Control, and your device’s advertising-personalization settings where available.
- You watch on a computer: Try a reputable browser content blocker, with the expectation that it may fail or break playback.
- You manage a technical home network: Consider Pi-hole for general DNS-based privacy and ad filtering, but do not expect it to reliably remove Tubi video commercials.
- You watch through a native TV or streaming-device app: There is currently no dependable official ad-free option. A different streaming stick is not the answer.
Bottom line
You cannot currently turn off all Tubi ads through a Tubi subscription or setting because Tubi does not offer an ad-free tier. Opting out of personalized ads can reduce targeted advertising but will not necessarily remove commercial breaks. Desktop browser content blocking is the simplest workaround to test, while Pi-hole is an advanced network project with important technical limitations. If either approach disrupts playback, reverse the change and use Tubi’s supported app or contact Tubi support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tubi have an ad-free subscription in 2026?
No. Tubi’s current Help Center position is that it does not offer an ad-free option. The service is free and funded by advertising.
Does opting out of targeted ads remove Tubi commercials?
No. It changes how advertising may be personalized. Tubi states that opting out does not stop all advertising, so commercial breaks may continue.
Can Pi-hole block Tubi ads?
It may block some advertising or tracking requests, but it cannot reliably distinguish Tubi’s in-stream commercials from the requested program when they use the same infrastructure. It is not a guaranteed Tubi ad remover.
Can an ad blocker work with the Tubi app on Roku or a smart TV?
A desktop-browser extension does not automatically apply to native Roku, smart-TV, mobile, or streaming-device apps. Results depend on the platform and how its app delivers playback.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Tubi has no official ad-free plan in 2026. Use privacy controls to reduce ad personalization, try a reputable blocker only when watching in a desktop browser, and treat Pi-hole as an advanced DNS-filtering experiment rather than a guaranteed way to remove Tubi’s video commercials.
