To switch what viewers see, create a separate OBS scene for each product category and transition between scenes while live. To change the products viewers can browse or the product featured on YouTube, use the stream’s Shopping controls in YouTube Studio. These are separate actions: changing an OBS scene does not automatically change YouTube Shopping tags or the pinned product.
First, identify what “product category” means
A product segment such as kitchen tools, beauty, or technology is part of your video layout. Switch it in OBS by taking a different scene live. A product viewers can open from YouTube’s shopping features belongs to the Shopping list in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. You may need to change both during a handoff.
OBS’s Media Source can play audio or video files and, when VLC Media Player is installed, can use a playlist. That playlist is for media playback; it does not control YouTube Shopping tags or the product pinned for viewers. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide and YouTube’s live product-tagging instructions.
Switch the on-screen category in OBS
- Create a scene for each segment. In OBS, use the Scenes dock to add scenes and give them clear names, such as “Kitchen,” “Beauty,” or “Tech.” A scene is a layout that can combine sources such as a camera, capture device, image, text, browser page, or media.
- Build each layout. Add or arrange the sources needed for that category. For example, use a text or image source for the category title or product name, and a camera or capture source to show a demonstration.
- Prepare the next scene in Studio Mode. Click Studio Mode. OBS displays the current Live Scene—the one viewers see—on the right and the editable preview on the left. Select the next category scene in Preview and adjust it without changing the live output.
- Take the prepared scene live. When ready, click Transition, use a configured Quick Transition, or trigger a configured hotkey. You can also select a scene directly when you do not need a previewed handoff.
- Choose the transition deliberately. Set the transition style and duration in advance. OBS includes Cut and Fade transitions, and offers additional transitions in the scene-transition controls.
- Rehearse the handoff. Check that the right category title, product shot, and other sources appear in each scene, and practice the preview-to-live transition before the broadcast.
Studio Mode changes the live video composition; it does not update the YouTube Shopping shelf. Handle that separately if you want the product listing to match the new segment.

Change or pin products in YouTube Studio
- Check Shopping eligibility and audience availability. YouTube Shopping features are subject to program eligibility and region availability. Visibility and shipping can depend on where viewers are. YouTube also says products from other brands can be tagged only by eligible channels. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live product-tagging help and its Shopping eligibility information.
- Open the stream’s Shopping controls. In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled or active stream in Live Control Room and use its Shopping tab to tag products. The order in the product picker is the order shown to viewers.
- Feature the product being discussed. Pin that product from the Shopping controls. YouTube documents a desktop option to automatically pin multiple tagged products in sequence; the rotation interval is 60 seconds.
- Make list changes ahead of time. YouTube recommends finishing product removals and rearrangements at least 30 minutes before the stream begins. It cautions that updates made during a stream may not be visible to some existing viewers.
- Coordinate the scene and product change. A practical handoff is to introduce the next category, transition to its OBS scene, then pin the corresponding product in the Shopping panel. Automatic rotation uses a fixed 60-second interval, so it may not line up with your planned segment timing.
For products from other brands, tagging is tied to YouTube’s affiliate program and channel eligibility; do not assume a particular channel will qualify or earn commission. Products should be relevant to the stream and prominently featured. Confirm current program terms and availability in YouTube Studio before planning a show around them.
Troubleshoot category changes
- The video changes, but the product listing does not. OBS scene transitions and YouTube Shopping controls are separate. Pin or update the product in Live Control Room.
- The wrong layout appears after a transition. Confirm that you selected the intended scene in Preview before clicking Transition. Check that its camera, text, images, or media sources are present and visible.
- Some viewers do not see a product-list edit. YouTube warns that live edits may not be visible to some existing viewers. Make list ordering and removal changes before the stream where possible.
- Automatic product changes do not match the segment. YouTube’s desktop rotation for multiple pinned products runs at a fixed 60-second interval. Pin the intended product manually when the show’s timing requires a specific handoff.
- A product cannot be tagged or is not visible to everyone. Check channel eligibility, region availability, and shipping coverage. Product availability can vary by viewer location.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded YouTube stream that should keep running 24/7, StreamNeo is a different option from switching live camera scenes in OBS: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. Each slot streams uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded video to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
