To stream prerecorded property walkthroughs continuously on YouTube Live in Canada, use an encoder that plays the footage and sends it to YouTube. Choose software, dedicated hardware, or a cloud service based on whether you need the stream to keep running without a computer at the property. Before going live, enable live streaming, configure a stable feed, test it in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and confirm you have the rights and permissions needed for the footage.
What you need for a continuous prerecorded stream
YouTube Live does not itself turn an uploaded video into a continuous broadcast. An encoder supplies the live feed: it can be software on a computer, a standalone hardware device, or a cloud service. For a recorded tour, the encoder must also play the video and support the looping or playlist behavior you want. YouTube lists encoder options for continuous and prerecorded streams, but check with each provider that its current product supports your intended playback, restart behavior, YouTube connection, and unattended run time. - A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled.
- The recorded walkthrough files and a playback method that can loop them or play a playlist.
- An encoder that can send a feed to YouTube over RTMPS.
- A stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity and headroom.
- Permission to publish the footage, audio, and any identifiable people or property shown.
Enable YouTube Live and create a stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. Initial activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave enablement until the day you plan to launch. - Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream and retrieve the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. The key identifies the destination and allows YouTube to accept the encoder’s feed. Treat it like a password: do not include it in a public tutorial, shared screenshot, or property-tour description. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection process.
- Choose a playback and encoder path. For a computer-based setup, use software that can play the recording and keep the stream running unattended. A dedicated hardware encoder is another option; YouTube lists the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K among verified hardware encoders, but its documentation does not establish that hardware is required for recorded tours. For cloud automation, verify the provider’s looping, recovery, monitoring, and compatibility details before relying on it.
- Connect the encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder, select RTMPS if available, and configure the video settings described below.
- Start a test feed and inspect the preview. Confirm the correct video and audio appear in Live Control Room, then check the live page and stream health before treating the setup as ready for continuous operation.
Set resolution, bitrate, keyframes, and upload capacity
Use settings that match the source recording and your available upload connection. For H.264, YouTube recommends these video bitrates for two common 1080p frame rates:

These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of image quality or an assessment of a particular property video. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS and supports codec options including H.264, HEVC, and AV1 depending on the protocol and configuration. Follow the current settings that apply to your chosen encoder and ingest mode at YouTube’s live encoder settings guide.

YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream’s bitrate. Treat that as spare capacity for a steadier feed, not as a substitute for testing the actual connection. If you use a backup feed, account for its upload demand as well. Run a representative test with the same resolution, frame rate, audio, and movement planned for the live tour. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend checking stream health and audio/video quality.
Test looping and unattended operation
- Play the full recording or playlist through the encoder, including the transition from the end back to the beginning. Check that the loop does not leave a blank feed or an unintended pause.
- Listen for audio dropouts, excessive loudness, and abrupt changes between clips. Inspect the image for stutters, black frames, or a mismatch between the encoder output and the intended resolution.
- Use Live Control Room’s preview and stream-health indicators before making the stream public or sharing its link.
- Check how the encoder behaves if the connection drops or the playback app closes. Confirm whether it reconnects or restarts automatically; do not assume every encoder or service does.
- For a computer or hardware setup, verify power, network stability, and any sleep or restart settings that could interrupt operation. For a cloud service, confirm its loop and recovery behavior with the provider.
Clear the footage and check Canadian permissions
Permission to upload a video is not necessarily permission to broadcast it worldwide as a live stream. YouTube’s livestream terms require the streamer to have the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws. Review the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions and clear music, narration, photographs, and other material used in the recording.

For a Canadian property walkthrough, obtain appropriate permission from the owner and any occupants or other identifiable people shown. Rules can depend on the province, property, people recorded, and how the video is used. The applicable Canadian and provincial requirements for a specific recording should be checked directly; do not assume that a YouTube setting or general owner approval resolves every privacy, tenancy, real-estate marketing, consent, or property-access issue.

YouTube identifies encoders as software or hardware and lists a cloud tool described for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Those listings are options to investigate, not a guarantee that a particular product suits every tour or will loop indefinitely. For a 1080p tour, YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 5 Mbps at 30 fps and 6 Mbps at 60 fps; plan additional upload capacity rather than operating at the connection’s limit.
