You can broadcast recorded open house tours continuously on YouTube Live by looping the tour files through a playback system and sending that feed to YouTube with an encoder. YouTube supplies the live ingest workflow; your chosen software, computer, or hardware must handle file playback and looping. Before going live, confirm channel eligibility, clear property and media rights, and test the complete stream.
What you need for a continuous tour channel
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- Recorded tours you have permission to show, arranged in a playlist or playback queue.
- A software encoder on a computer or a dedicated hardware encoder that supports prerecorded file playback and continuous looping. Verify those capabilities for the specific product; YouTube’s encoder instructions do not prescribe a looping app or device.
- A reliable power and internet connection, plus a way to monitor the stream and recover the playback system if it stops.
The broadcast is an encoder feed, not live footage of a property. Label it as prerecorded in the title, description, and on-screen graphics so viewers know what they are watching.
Check YouTube Live access first
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s encoder setup requirements and its guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions.
Choose and prepare the playback setup
Software encoder on a computer
Use this route if you have a computer that can stay powered, connected, and available for the full broadcast. Confirm that the encoder can play your tour files in sequence and repeat the playlist, rather than merely capturing a camera or desktop. Plan for computer restarts, software crashes, updates, and internet outages; continuous operation depends on your equipment and connection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Dedicated hardware encoder
A hardware encoder may suit a dedicated installation, but do not assume it can loop video files just because it can encode and send a live feed. Check for file playback, playlist looping, unattended restart, remote monitoring, and support for YouTube’s ingest settings before buying. YouTube describes both software and hardware encoders; neither approach guarantees uninterrupted operation. Its guidance says, “For higher production value events, we recommend professional-grade hardware encoders.” That is a recommendation, not a requirement; software encoding is also an option. Read YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Build a clear, rights-cleared playlist
Arrange tours in the order viewers should see them, and check that playback moves from one file to the next without a long blank interval. Make sure each tour is still accurate and appropriate to show. Secure permission to show the property and any identifiable people, and clear music and other third-party material. The channel operator is responsible for the necessary rights to live content and for complying with applicable laws and YouTube’s terms; review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

Configure YouTube and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create a live stream using the encoder workflow. Set the title, description, privacy, and other stream options. Disclose that the tours are prerecorded in the title or description and, where practical, on-screen.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. YouTube documents these steps in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Select the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube’s encoder guidance lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 14 Mbps as recommended. YouTube recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds. For stereo audio, the listed settings are 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. These figures were verified against YouTube’s encoder guidance in 2026; consult its current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions if using a different resolution, frame rate, or codec.
- Use RTMPS where supported; YouTube recommends it as the secure extension of RTMP. Check stream settings such as latency and DVR in Live Control Room. When DVR is enabled, viewers can pause and rewind the live stream. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
- Start the encoder feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the expected stream is selected and that the event is accessible with the intended privacy setting before starting the public broadcast.
Test, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Watch the preview and confirm that video is stable, audio is audible and synchronized, and the playlist advances and loops as intended.
- Check access from the channel’s watch page and a mobile device. Confirm that the title, description, and any on-screen notice make clear that these are recorded tours.
- Run a test under realistic conditions, including the motion and audio levels in the actual tour files. A bitrate that works for a static screen may not be suitable for moving footage.
- After going live, monitor stream health and the playback system. YouTube can report ingest problems, but it cannot keep a failed computer, encoder, power supply, or home connection running.
For a planned shutdown, end the stream deliberately in Live Control Room and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that a broadcast lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived in full. See the encoder instructions.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No preview or encoder does not connect | Incorrect stream URL or key, inactive live access, or encoder misconfiguration. | Confirm live access, copy the current URL and key from the correct Live Control Room stream, and verify the encoder’s ingest settings. |
| Video stutters or stream health degrades | Bitrate exceeds what the upload connection can sustain, or the encoder settings do not match the source and connection. | Check the encoder’s bitrate and YouTube stream-health status. Lower the output bitrate or resolution as needed, and test again under realistic motion conditions. |
| Audio is missing, too quiet, or distorted | Wrong audio source, muted output, or unsuitable audio encoding settings. | Check the encoder’s selected audio track and levels, then verify stereo output at the YouTube-listed 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz settings. |
| The same tour does not repeat, or playback stops between files | The playback system lacks playlist looping, or its playback queue has ended. | Verify that looping is enabled in the playback system and test the end of the playlist before launch. YouTube’s encoder workflow does not configure file looping for you. |
| The stream ends when nobody is at the computer | The computer, encoder, power, or internet connection stopped or disconnected. | Check the playback host’s power and network, encoder logs or status, and any sleep or restart settings. Set up monitoring and a recovery procedure; uptime depends on the complete system. |
| The archive is incomplete or unavailable | The continuous broadcast reached or exceeded YouTube’s stated automatic-archive duration. | YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Keep a broadcast below that duration if relying on this rule; verify a current archiving workflow separately for longer events. |
