Yes—you can simulcast to Twitch and YouTube. Twitch’s current Terms of Service allows it when you give Twitch viewers an experience at least as good as viewers elsewhere, do not direct your Twitch community to the concurrent stream, and do not show combined activity from other platforms on your Twitch broadcast. You can send the stream directly from local software or use a cloud relay to distribute it.
What Twitch allows when you simulcast
Twitch’s Terms of Service, section 11, permits simulcasting to other services that support live streaming user-generated content, subject to its conditions. Twitch’s audience must receive an experience at least as good as the audience on the other service, including through your engagement with the Twitch community—for example, chat.
- Keep Twitch viewers engaged. Do not let your Twitch audience receive a lesser experience than viewers on YouTube.
- Do not direct Twitch viewers away. You may identify that you are also present on another platform with neutral links, but do not actively encourage people on Twitch to leave for the concurrent YouTube stream.
- Do not display merged platform activity on Twitch. Do not use third-party services to combine activity from other platforms on the Twitch stream. Twitch’s help FAQ has described personal-use tools for combining activity, but that is not permission to display cross-platform activity during the Twitch simulcast.
Check any agreement you have with Twitch for an exclusivity requirement, and confirm the current Twitch Terms of Service before going live; platform terms can change. Twitch’s terms page reports a modification date of August 12, 2026.
Choose how to send the stream to both platforms
| Approach | How it works | Best suited to | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Streaming software on your computer encodes the video and sends it to both services, using a compatible multistream plugin or multi-output setup. | Creators who want control and have a capable computer and sufficient upload bandwidth. | Your machine does the encoding. If it sends separate feeds directly, your connection must support their combined bitrate. |
| Cloud relay | Your encoder sends one stream to a relay, which distributes it to Twitch and YouTube. | Creators who want simpler distribution, have limited local processing capacity, or plan to stream to more than two destinations. | The relay’s current destination limits, resolution, branding, and pricing depend on the provider and plan; check them before committing. |
YouTube describes local hardware/software encoding as a higher-control option for creators with a powerful computer, and cloud-service encoding as a simpler setup that is lighter on the local computer. A relay still has to distribute the video onward, but it changes the local upload pattern from sending a separate feed to each platform.

Local software setup
OBS Studio is one example of a software encoder. Twitch documents software encoders and uses RTMP with a platform-assigned stream key. To send one local encode to both services, you need a compatible multistream plugin or multi-output configuration. The official platform guidance does not certify a particular plugin or provide universal multi-output steps, so check the chosen tool’s current instructions rather than assuming a specific setup is endorsed by Twitch or YouTube.
Cloud relay setup
A relay can reduce the work your computer does for distribution. For example, Restream’s own guide describes connecting Twitch and YouTube accounts, creating a stream with its RTMP encoder option, enabling both destinations, copying the relay key into OBS, and starting the stream in OBS. Its browser-based Studio is another option if you do not want to use OBS. These are vendor instructions, not an independent performance assessment; verify the current features and plan limits directly.

Cloudflare Stream documents a different relay pattern: create a live input and add destination outputs such as Twitch and YouTube. Its documentation says one input can simulcast to up to 50 concurrent destinations, a Cloudflare Stream product capability—not a general multistream limit. The page was last updated April 21, 2026.
Prepare accounts, keys, and bandwidth
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Verify your YouTube channel and request live-stream access. YouTube says first-time activation takes at least 24 hours after the request, so do not leave it until the day of your broadcast.
- Confirm both accounts are ready. Check that you can go live on Twitch and YouTube. Find each platform’s RTMP URL and stream key if your chosen encoder or relay asks for them. Treat stream keys like passwords: do not share or publish them.
- Choose the routing method. Decide whether your computer will send feeds directly or send one feed to a cloud relay. Consider local encoding capacity, available upload speed, the number of destinations, desired control, and the relay’s current limits and cost.
- Set up each destination. Add Twitch and YouTube in your selected tool, enter the requested server details and keys, and check that each destination is enabled. Interface labels vary by encoder and provider, so follow that product’s current setup guide.
- Test before the public broadcast. Where available, use a private test or unlisted YouTube event. Confirm that Twitch is live, check YouTube’s stream-health status, and verify audio, video, and chat engagement on both services.
Estimate upload speed for separate outgoing feeds
For separate feeds sent directly from your computer, add their target bitrates to estimate the required upload capacity. YouTube’s example adds a 6 Mbps stream and a 4 Mbps stream for a 10 Mbps combined target. YouTube recommends available upload speed of 1.5–2 times that sum for stability—15–20 Mbps in that example. This is YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee for every network or setting.

Test with realistic audio and video movement, ideally on the connection you will use for the broadcast. Shared connections and other household or office traffic can affect available upload capacity. Monitor stream-health alerts while live; a speed-test result alone cannot confirm that a stream will remain healthy.
Keep the stream within platform rules
- Preserve the Twitch experience. Stay present with Twitch chat and avoid treating Twitch as only a signpost to YouTube.
- Keep cross-platform activity off the Twitch feed. Do not overlay merged Twitch and YouTube chat or other combined platform activity onto the Twitch simulcast.
- Use content you have the right to stream. Simulcasting does not change copyright obligations on either service. Make sure you have the necessary rights for music, footage, clips, and other material on both platforms.
- Check platform-specific policies. Copyright and other live-stream rules may apply differently across platforms. Review the current policies for your content and account before broadcasting.
Common problems and fixes
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not offer a live option. | Channel verification or live-stream activation is incomplete. | Complete YouTube’s channel verification and live-stream enablement, then allow at least 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| One platform is live, but the other is not. | A destination may be disabled, its key or server details may be wrong, or the relay may not be connected to that account. | Check the destination list, account connection, RTMP URL, and stream key in the tool you are using. Replace a key only through the platform’s official settings. |
| The stream buffers, drops frames, or reports poor health. | Upload capacity may be insufficient or unstable, especially when sending separate feeds over a shared connection. | Recalculate the combined target bitrate, compare it with available upload speed, reduce the target if needed, and test again while monitoring platform health. |
| Twitch viewers see less engagement or are told to watch elsewhere. | The Twitch experience may not meet Twitch’s simulcasting condition. | Engage with Twitch chat and remove calls that encourage viewers to leave Twitch for the concurrent YouTube stream. |
| A combined chat or activity overlay appears on Twitch. | A third-party tool is putting other-platform activity onto the Twitch simulcast. | Disable the merged overlay or activity display on the Twitch output. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos rather than broadcast a camera or live gameplay, StreamNeo is a separate option—not a Twitch simulcast tool. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not stream to Twitch or go live from a camera.
