The key caveat: a computer and network connection must stay available, and YouTube’s guidance does not promise that a single stream lasting 24 hours or longer will be archived as one video. Plan the broadcast and its replays accordingly.
Before you start: prepare the stories and permissions
Choose the stories, narration, illustrations, music, and other material you plan to include. A book purchase does not by itself establish permission to read, perform, livestream, or archive its contents. Check that you have the necessary rights for every element, including translations, recordings, and artwork shown on screen.
YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” This is YouTube’s platform requirement, not individualized legal advice. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; identified material may trigger a warning or placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. Enable YouTube live streaming and create the broadcast

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Enter an accurate title and description, then choose the visibility that fits your intended audience: public, unlisted, or private. Use a non-public test if you need to check the setup before sharing the broadcast.

Set the audience accurately. If the stories are made for children, designate the livestream as made for kids in Live Control Room. YouTube requires creators to identify whether content is made for kids; the designation is not simply a choice about who might happen to watch.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel, so do not publish or share it. YouTube audience setting guidance
Configure OBS and connect it to YouTube
OBS is the do-it-yourself encoder in this workflow. Build a scene that shows the story presentation you intend to broadcast, add the prepared media, and check that narration and any permitted music are audible. Test transitions and the full sequence before relying on it for a long broadcast. The YouTube instructions describe the encoder connection, but do not verify a particular OBS looping recipe or current OBS menu labels; check the OBS version you use for exact controls and confirm that your playlist or media source behaves as intended.

Open OBS streaming settings and select the YouTube service or configure the server using the stream URL supplied in YouTube Live Control Room.

Enter the stream key for the specific broadcast. Verify it carefully; a wrong or expired key can prevent OBS from connecting.

Set the video and audio output appropriate for your content and available upload capacity. Your total streaming bitrate must fit within your available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; that is a recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. YouTube network, audio, and video troubleshooting

Start OBS and check that YouTube Live Control Room receives the feed before making the event public. Preview the picture and sound, and check that the watch page is accessible to the intended viewers.

Keep the stream monitored and plan for a long broadcast
Continuous streaming from OBS means the computer, OBS, and network connection must remain available. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event, starting it at least 15 minutes early, previewing in Live Control Room, confirming access, and monitoring audio and video while live. These are operational checks, not a promise of 24/7 availability. YouTube livestream setup tips
Plan what viewers will see if OBS, the computer, or the connection stops. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not establish that one uninterrupted stream lasting 24 hours or longer will be saved as a single replay. If replay matters, decide how to divide the broadcast into shorter sessions and verify the current archive behavior in Live Control Room. For recorded events, YouTube also recommends checking the archive file.
Made-for-kids settings change the viewing experience
For a livestream designated made for kids, YouTube restricts features including live chat, live chat donations, comments, channel memberships, notifications, personalized advertising, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. YouTube says personalized ads are not served on children’s content, which may reduce revenue for some creators. Do not build the story experience around chat or assume ordinary personalized-ad monetization will be available. YouTube made-for-kids settings and feature restrictions

OBS does not connect: Check that you copied the stream URL and key for the correct YouTube broadcast and entered them in OBS correctly. If the key has been changed or regenerated, update OBS with the current one.

Feed stalls or drops: Check available upload bandwidth, reduce the stream’s total bitrate if necessary, and preserve YouTube’s recommended roughly 20% headroom. Other people using the same connection or network disruption can affect the feed. Test using the actual connection you intend to use.

Viewers cannot watch: Confirm the broadcast visibility is appropriate, the event is accessible on its watch page, and Live Control Room shows the expected incoming feed.

Copyright warning or interruption: Review the material matched by YouTube and confirm that your permissions cover livestream use. If a rights holder licensed the use, ask about Content ID allowlisting; permission alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted.

Replay is missing or incomplete: Do not assume a 24-hour-or-longer broadcast will produce one archive. Check the stream duration and archive status in YouTube Studio, and use planned shorter sessions if separate replays are important.
