Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo stream from vMix to Wowza, create a live stream in Wowza Video, choose the vMix input workflow if it is offered, copy that stream’s generated connection details, enter the matching values in vMix, then start the outputs and confirm the incoming picture in Wowza. Wowza’s current documentation calls the service Wowza Video; “Wowza Streaming Cloud” remains familiar legacy wording. The available controls can vary by workflow and account interface, so use the values shown for your own stream rather than example credentials.
Choose a Wowza setup route
Wowza documents vMix as a supported stream input. Depending on the setup flow available in your account, you can select vMix for specialized connection assistance or use the generic RTMP encoder workflow. Neither route is universally preferable: the displayed controls and the amount of manual configuration differ.
| Setup route | What it provides | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| vMix input | In documented quick and custom setup flows, vMix appears as an input type and can provide a specialized connection method or code. | Follow the connection method displayed for the stream. Manual region or push/pull controls may be hidden when RTMP autostart is enabled. |
| Generic RTMP encoder | Uses the stream-specific server/address and stream name or key shown in its source connection information. | Copy the current values from the stream details, including any source username and password. Legacy RTMP guidance describes an address format, not reusable credentials. |
Wowza’s legacy RTMP encoder guide covers the generic encoder connection approach; its interface and instructions are explicitly legacy. Current setup descriptions are in Wowza’s custom stream setup, quick live stream setup, and fully configurable live stream documentation.
Create and configure the receiving stream in Wowza
- Start a quick or custom live stream setup. Select the vMix input type if the option appears and you want its specialized connection workflow. Otherwise, use the RTMP encoder path and follow the connection details Wowza generates.
- Choose the processing region if offered. For a manually selected region, Wowza advises choosing one close to where the stream originates. Some autostart workflows select a region automatically and hide region controls.
- Match the input profile to the source. Choose the resolution/profile that corresponds to the vMix output. Wowza documents that input resolution affects the adaptive bitrate output ladder, so a mismatch can affect the processing and renditions downstream.
- Decide on start/stop and event options before creating the stream. Check whether recording, autostart/autostop, and push/pull behavior fit your workflow. RTMP autostart is enabled by default in the documented quick/custom flows; when enabled, push/pull and manual region controls are hidden. Wowza notes that some choices, including autostart, cannot be changed after stream creation.
- Create the stream and open its details or Overview. Copy the generated server/address, stream name or key, port, and source credentials if Wowza displays them. Each stream has its own connection values; do not use another stream’s values or a sample URL.
The legacy encoder guide describes the RTMP URL format as rtmp://[stream key].[primary server]/[application], with default port 1935. It also says RTMPS is accepted on port 443 when the encoder supports it. Treat these as format details from the legacy guide, not as values to type literally: use the endpoint, port, and credentials shown in your current stream’s details.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Enter the Wowza connection in vMix
In vMix, open the streaming destination configuration for the output you intend to send to Wowza. Map the values from Wowza’s stream details to the corresponding server or URL, stream/key, port, and authentication fields that your vMix version presents. If a source username and password are provided, use those in the matching authentication fields; do not substitute your Wowza account login unless the stream details specifically instruct you to.
Field labels and the exact vMix screen sequence are not established by the Wowza setup documentation. If your vMix version labels these controls differently, consult its documentation and preserve Wowza’s generated values exactly, including the server, application/path, key, and any required authentication.

Start the stream and verify reception
- Start the Wowza stream first if the chosen workflow requires it. An autostart-enabled workflow may instead start processing when the encoder connects.
- Start vMix’s stream output using the configured Wowza destination.
- Check the Wowza Video stream details, preview, or status for incoming video. In the legacy encoder workflow, preview frames refresh every five seconds, and a push connection can take up to ten seconds after service startup; these are legacy workflow observations, not timing guarantees for every current interface.
- Once the incoming picture is confirmed, monitor the Wowza status and the vMix output for the duration of the event.
Stop cleanly after the event
Stop the vMix output when the event ends. Stop the Wowza stream as well if its selected workflow does not autostop. Whether the Wowza stream starts or stops automatically depends on the choices made during creation, so verify its status rather than assuming the same behavior across all setup routes.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect picture
- Wowza shows no incoming video: Confirm the stream is started if required, vMix is sending to the intended destination, and you copied the endpoint and stream-specific key from this stream’s details.
- Connection fails or authentication is rejected: Recheck the server/address, port, stream name or key, and any source username/password. A typo or values copied from another stream will prevent the intended connection.
- The URL or encoder method does not match: Confirm whether your Wowza setup expects the specialized vMix connection method or a generic RTMP encoder configuration. Use the matching workflow rather than mixing instructions from different setup routes.
- Video arrives at an unexpected resolution: Check that the Wowza input resolution/profile matches the vMix source profile; Wowza says the input resolution affects the adaptive bitrate output ladder.
- Connection controls are missing: In documented quick/custom flows, RTMP autostart can hide push/pull and manual region controls. Some setup choices cannot be edited after stream creation, so review the stream’s setup choices and details before rebuilding or changing the workflow.
- Preview appears delayed: Allow for processing and refresh the stream details/status. The five-second preview refresh and up-to-ten-second push connection observation apply to Wowza’s documented legacy encoder workflow, not necessarily every current account interface.
Or let it run in the cloud
