Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can stream prerecorded videos in a chosen sequence to YouTube by running a continuous playback-and-encoding process on a VPS and sending its output to YouTube Live with your stream URL and key. YouTube documents the encoder connection and output requirements, but not a specific VPS playlist script or minimum server size; those depend on the software, files, and workload you choose.
How the setup works
The video files are the source; a playback process feeds them in order to an encoder; the encoder sends a continuous stream to YouTube Live. The VPS must stay online, have access to the files, and sustain enough outbound bandwidth for the selected bitrate.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the Live Control Room stream URL and stream key. Its instructions say to enter both in the encoder, start sending the stream, check the preview, and go live when needed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains that connection process.
Before configuring the VPS
Enable live streaming on the channel
Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned broadcast rather than at the last minute. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Prepare the sequence
- Choose the exact order of the files and make sure the VPS can access each one.
- Decide what should happen at the end of the sequence: stop, restart from the first file, or continue into another set. A playlist process must be configured to match that choice.
- Check that each file has compatible video and audio, and test transitions for gaps, abrupt audio changes, or unexpected black frames.
The sequence mechanism is determined by the playback and encoding software you select. YouTube’s documentation covers the ingest connection and output guidance, not a VPS-side playlist command. Verify the chosen software’s syntax and behavior—including what happens when a file is missing or finishes—before relying on automation.
Connect the VPS encoder to YouTube
- Create or select a stream: In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the event you intend to use. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup steps at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the ingest details: Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding server and key fields in your encoder. Keep the key private; if it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Configure the output: Set the encoder to use YouTube-compatible codecs, bitrate, frame rate, and keyframe interval. Prefer RTMPS, YouTube’s TLS-encrypted version of RTMP.
- Start the output and inspect the preview: Start the encoder process on the VPS, then confirm that the expected picture and audio appear in Live Control Room.
- Go live as appropriate: For a scheduled broadcast, YouTube’s setup guidance says to wait for the preview and click “Go live.” For unscheduled streams, check the event’s auto-start and auto-stop settings; they affect how starting or stopping the encoder relates to the live event.
Choose video, audio, and bitrate settings
Use YouTube’s current live encoder settings and bitrate recommendations as the output target rather than assuming the source files are already suitable. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds.

Bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate. For one specific example, YouTube lists 2 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate and 6 Mbps as the maximum for 720p at 30 fps. Do not treat that example as a universal setting; consult the bitrate table for your intended output.
Allow for outbound bandwidth
The VPS needs sustained upload capacity sufficient for the stream. YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom. Compare the encoder’s total output bitrate with sustained outbound capacity, not just a provider’s advertised download speed. A stream that repeatedly approaches the connection limit is more vulnerable to interruption.

Size and operate the VPS carefully
The official YouTube guidance does not establish a minimum VPS CPU, RAM, disk, or network plan. Requirements vary with the selected resolution and frame rate, whether the files need real-time encoding or can be passed through, and how the playlist software handles transitions. Do not assume a provider’s entry-level plan will be sufficient without testing your actual workload.
- Check that the VPS has enough storage for the files you plan to keep there, or a dependable way to access them.
- Check sustained outbound bandwidth against the chosen bitrate, leaving YouTube’s recommended headroom.
- Check CPU and memory use during a representative run, especially if the encoder must transcode the source files.
- Use process supervision or restart handling appropriate to your operating system and software, and verify that a restart does not create an unintended new event or leave the playlist in the wrong position.
- Account for storage, transfer, compute, and maintenance in the VPS’s total cost. No provider-specific cost or performance comparison is established here.
Test the complete sequence before broadcasting
- Run the intended sequence on the VPS with representative files and the planned output settings.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio, transitions, and the correct order.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators while the encoder is sending data; a process that remains running does not by itself prove the stream is healthy.
- Test the failure cases you expect to handle, such as an interrupted connection, an encoder restart, or a missing file.
- For scheduled streams, confirm the preview and event controls before clicking “Go live.”
YouTube advises testing before an event and monitoring quality while streaming. These checks matter even if the sequence plays correctly on the VPS, because ingest, encoding, and the YouTube preview are separate parts of the path.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not promise a complete archive for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. For longer programming, plan how you will preserve or divide the material and verify YouTube’s current behavior rather than assuming one uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce a single complete archive.

If you want to run the sequence yourself, a VPS gives you control over the files and playback process, but you are responsible for the encoder, server, bandwidth, and recovery. YouTube also identifies Gyre as a verified cloud encoder for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; check its current product information for supported sequence features, limits, pricing, and recovery behavior. The evidence here does not establish that either approach is cheaper or more reliable.

Troubleshooting
No preview appears in Live Control Room
- Check that the encoder is sending to the correct stream URL and that the matching stream key is entered correctly.
- Confirm the channel has live streaming enabled and the selected event is the one you are viewing.
- Check the VPS process output and outbound connection; a running playlist does not necessarily mean data is reaching YouTube.
The stream drops or reports poor health
- Compare the configured bitrate with sustained outbound capacity and reduce the bitrate if the connection cannot maintain it with adequate headroom.
- Check that the keyframe interval and constant-bitrate settings match YouTube’s guidance.
- Look for VPS resource saturation or process restarts, particularly when the encoder is transcoding.
A file is skipped, repeats unexpectedly, or leaves a gap
- Check the playlist order and the playback software’s end-of-file and missing-file behavior.
- Test the entire sequence with the same files and settings; do not assume a playlist feature behaves identically across encoder versions.
- Inspect audio and video compatibility at file boundaries and adjust the sequence or encoding configuration as needed.
The scheduled event is not live after the encoder starts
Check the preview and event controls in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s documented workflow requires waiting for the preview and clicking “Go live”; auto-start and auto-stop settings may change this behavior for unscheduled streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the cloud keeps the stream running. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; Monthly is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only. Start your free StreamNeo day.
