For a scheduled event, wait for the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live when you are ready.
Prepare the VODs and decide what viewers will see
Have the gaming VOD files available on the Windows PC that will run OBS. Decide whether the broadcast should show only the videos or include an intro, intermission screen, overlays, or an end scene. OBS scenes are arrangements of sources, and sources can include media; use the scene layout to build the complete output viewers should receive. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
For sequential playback, use a media playback source or another playlist-capable source available in your installed OBS setup. The exact local multi-file playlist controls may vary by OBS version and setup, so check the controls in your installation rather than relying on assumed menu names. A YouTube-hosted playlist URL is not a substitute for locally configuring playback in OBS.
Create an immediate or scheduled YouTube Live event
In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab for a broadcast intended to begin now. To announce a future broadcast, use the Manage tab and select Schedule stream. Scheduling can give viewers an event page they can share and the option to set reminders. YouTube’s current encoder instructions are at YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder.

Connect OBS to the YouTube event

In YouTube Live Control Room, open the event’s stream settings and obtain its server URL and stream key.

In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service if that option is available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the corresponding OBS streaming settings. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.”

Keep the stream key private. Treat it as a credential: do not show it in screenshots, recordings, or a public stream.

Build and test the OBS output before broadcasting
In OBS, compose a scene with the VOD playback and any intended audio or visual elements. Confirm that the videos play in the intended order, the audio is audible, transitions work, and the output behaves as expected when playback ends. OBS’s guide recommends testing the configured scenes and stream operation before a first live broadcast: “It’s strongly recommended that you test everything as best as you can before starting your first live stream.” See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.

For a scheduled stream, check Live Control Room for the incoming feed and preview. When the preview is ready and you want the public broadcast to begin, select Go live.

Follow the current event controls in YouTube Studio when ending the broadcast. An older OBS community guide describes scheduled streams as potentially requiring separate Live Control Room start and stop actions unless automatic start and stop are enabled. Because that guide was originally published in 2015, treat it as a reminder to check the settings—not as a universal rule. See the OBS community guide to setting up a first live stream.

Know what to expect from the YouTube replay
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and can be found in YouTube Studio’s Live tab. That guidance is specifically for streams under 12 hours; it does not establish the same archive outcome for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Troubleshoot common problems

YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that OBS is streaming and that the server URL and stream key match the intended event. If needed, retrieve the event’s connection details in Live Control Room and enter them again in OBS.

The feed arrives but the scheduled broadcast has not begun: A scheduled event has a preview and release step. Confirm the preview in Live Control Room and select Go live when ready.

The wrong VOD, no video, or no audio appears: Check the OBS scene and its media or playlist-capable source, then test playback and audio routing before releasing the stream. The local playlist controls depend on the OBS setup.

The event starts or stops differently than expected: Check the current YouTube Studio event controls and any automatic start/stop settings. Do not rely on older community instructions as a guarantee of current behavior.

You expect a replay for a long broadcast: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. Do not assume that it guarantees an archive for longer streams.
