To stream a speedrun archive continuously on YouTube Live, create a live stream in YouTube Studio, send its stream URL and key to an encoder, and configure that encoder to play your recordings in sequence or on repeat. A local encoder requires a computer and internet connection to stay available; a cloud service can run the feed remotely. First confirm you have permission to rebroadcast every game and any separately controlled material in the recordings.
Before you start
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s stated requirements, as of October 3, 2026, are that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and that the person live streaming is at least 16.
- Gather the recordings. Decide which runs belong in the feed, their order, and whether the playlist should repeat. Check the chosen encoder or service’s current supported formats and playlist behavior; the YouTube ingest workflow does not itself configure a video playlist.
- Review rights for every element. Check the game publisher’s policy and the rights for music, commentary, overlays, clips, or other third-party material. Having a recording or describing it as a speedrun archive does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.
- Plan a separate backup. Keep the original files or another independent recording. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.
How to stream multiple speedrun files continuously

Confirm you can go live
Verify the channel in YouTube and check its live-streaming status before building the broadcast. If the channel is not eligible, resolve that first; an encoder cannot bypass YouTube’s channel requirements.

Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio
Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live, then create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. YouTube describes the stream key as the encoder’s password, so keep it private and do not include it in screenshots, public notes, or shared configuration.

Connect an encoder
In your encoder, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in its streaming or destination settings. The encoder is what sends the continuous video feed to YouTube. Use RTMPS where the encoder and ingest option provide it.

Build and verify the playback sequence
Add the speedrun recordings to the encoder’s playlist or other playback source, set their order, and enable repeat if you want the sequence to cycle. The exact controls vary by encoder; verify that it advances between files and restarts the list as intended. Test what happens when a file ends, when the playlist reaches its last item, and if a file cannot be read. Do not assume YouTube Studio will loop the files for you.

Match stream quality to your connection
Choose output quality and bitrate your internet connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health; OBS notes that increasing dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot maintain. The available sources do not establish one suitable bitrate or resolution for every speedrun archive, encoder, and connection, so use the encoder’s current guidance and YouTube’s stream-health feedback rather than applying a universal number.

Run a preflight, then start the broadcast
When appropriate, test privately or as unlisted before making the stream public. Check picture, game audio, commentary, transitions, playlist order, and whether playback continues after the final file. Watch the Live Control Room and the encoder’s health indicators while sending the feed. If the picture or sound is wrong, stop and correct the source or encoder before directing viewers to the stream.

Keep operating and archive plans separate
During the broadcast, monitor stream health and the encoder’s connection indicators. Retain the original speedruns independently of YouTube’s automatic archive. If individual runs need to remain separately findable, plan those recordings and their titles or other metadata separately instead of relying on one continuous broadcast archive.

Local encoder or cloud service?

The available information does not establish comparative uptime, price, or feature parity for local encoders and cloud services. A local computer is not required by YouTube’s ingest workflow itself; it is required only if you choose a local encoding setup.
Rights: clear each game and each recording
Permission is title- and asset-specific. Check the publisher policy for every game in the archive, along with the rights for music and other third-party material captured in the recordings. Capcom’s policy, last updated March 15, 2021, permits specified forms of its game footage, including speedruns, subject to conditions; it applies to Capcom-owned intellectual property, not other publishers’ games. Capcom also directs creators to check with rights holders for third-party content. Do not treat that example as blanket permission for a mixed-game archive.

Present the feed accurately as an archive or replay where that would help viewers understand that the footage is recorded rather than a current run. The sources cited here do not establish a general YouTube rule requiring a particular “pre-recorded” label for every such stream.

- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key for the selected Studio stream, that it is actively sending, and that the key has not been changed. If you shared the key, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The stream drops frames or becomes unstable: Check the encoder’s dropped-frame or health indicators and the available upload capacity. Reduce the selected output quality or bitrate until the connection can sustain it, then test again.
- The broadcast stops at the end of a run: Check the encoder’s playlist settings, whether repeat is enabled, and how it handles the end of a file. Verify a complete cycle before going live.
- A file has no sound, the wrong sound, or a broken transition: Check the file itself and the encoder’s playback source and audio configuration. Test every transition in the planned sequence, not just the first file.
- The long broadcast is missing from channel archives: Do not rely on YouTube to capture a stream that exceeds 12 hours. Preserve the recordings independently and plan how individual runs will be available.
- A rights claim or restriction appears: Review the affected game and embedded assets separately, then resolve the issue with the appropriate rights holder or remove material you are not cleared to use. A permission policy from one publisher does not cover another publisher’s game.
