You can keep No Man’s Sky gameplay live around the clock, but don’t rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast to produce a complete YouTube replay. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an archive viewers can revisit, run shorter broadcasts that end comfortably before that limit and record locally as backup.
Choose a broadcast structure that protects the archive

Prepare YouTube and your gameplay encoder
Check channel eligibility
Verify the channel and enable live streaming ahead of time. YouTube requires that the channel have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and states that streamers must be at least 16. Check YouTube Studio for restrictions before scheduling. YouTube identifies an encoder workflow as suitable for gameplay, overlays, and audio equipment such as microphones. Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations as a starting point, then test against the actual upload connection. For H.264, examples include 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, and 24 Mbps for 1440p at 60 fps. These are recommended video bitrates for those resolutions and frame rates, not universal upload-speed requirements. Leave connection headroom for audio and network variation, and use the relevant row in YouTube’s encoder settings table for the chosen format.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the contribution feed to its servers. Use the stream key shown in YouTube Studio only in your encoder’s stream settings, and do not publish or share it: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to the broadcast. For automated setups, the YouTube Live API documentation distinguishes the incoming stream from the broadcast video object; API support for recurring broadcasts or a 24/7 feed does not change YouTube’s separate archive warning.
Build the archive workflow step by step
- Plan sessions: In YouTube Studio, schedule separate broadcasts that each end well before 12 hours. Allow time between sessions for a controlled handoff rather than assuming YouTube will make the transition seamless.
- Configure the encoder: Connect it to the scheduled YouTube broadcast with the stream key, RTMPS, and a video bitrate matched to the resolution and frame rate you selected.
- Enable local recording: Record the gameplay locally while streaming. Choose a destination with enough free space for the recording quality and retention period you intend; capacity depends on bitrate and how long you keep footage. YouTube recommends a local archive as backup. An external SSD is one practical option, not a YouTube requirement.
- Run a representative test: Use an unlisted or private test with the same kind of movement, game audio, microphone, overlays, and encoder settings planned for the real feed. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and playback on another device.
- Verify the local file: Confirm that the recording exists, opens, and continues to grow during the test. Monitor the destination drive’s available space during longer sessions.
- Operate and hand off: Watch stream health and recording status during each session. End and start broadcasts deliberately, then confirm the next broadcast is live and the local recording is continuing as intended.
- Review the archive: After each session, check that YouTube processed the replay and that your local file is usable before deleting or overwriting either copy.
Make an exploration feed useful as an archive
Hello Games describes No Man’s Sky as exploration and survival in a procedurally generated galaxy, with distinctive creatures, geological formations, plants, and ships. Help viewers understand what they are seeing by keeping gameplay visible and adding a readable location or discovery label and a simple session log. That is an editorial approach, not a claim about audience performance.

Resolve game-content rights before monetizing
The Hello Games End User Licence Agreement at nomanssky.com is dated 25 January 2019. It permits sharing non-commercial gameplay screenshots and videos on personal social media, and separately restricts commercial exploitation of the game. That wording does not clearly establish whether a current monetized, continuous YouTube livestream is permitted. Do not assume monetization is authorized; check for current terms or obtain clarification from Hello Games before relying on it.
Also check the music in your planned broadcast. Hello Games’ press kit notes that the soundtrack includes work by 65daysofstatic, but the available material does not establish a separate livestream music licence. A rights question about the game or its music is distinct from YouTube’s technical ability to carry the stream.

Troubleshoot common archive problems
- The replay is missing or incomplete: The broadcast may have run beyond 12 hours. Keep future sessions comfortably shorter and retain the local recording.
- The preview or stream health is poor: Compare encoder output with YouTube’s recommended settings, check the actual upload connection under gameplay load, and test at a lower resolution or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the chosen settings.
- The game is visible but audio is absent or wrong: Test game and microphone audio separately before going live, then check the preview and playback on another device.
- The local archive stops or is missing: Check the recording destination, available storage, and whether the encoder is still recording. Confirm that the file opens before treating it as a reliable backup.
- A session handoff interrupts the feed: Use a planned end-and-start sequence and verify the next broadcast in Live Control Room. YouTube’s API model does not guarantee a seamless transition between separate broadcasts.
- A backup encoder is part of the setup: Test the failover before depending on it, including whether the local recording continues and whether the replacement feed appears correctly.
