How to Stream a Looping Yoga Video to YouTube Live from Indian Broadband

Loop a yoga recording as a YouTube Live broadcast with OBS, then choose a bitrate that suits your measured upload connection and test before going live.

To loop a prerecorded yoga video as a YouTube Live broadcast, run OBS Studio on a computer, add the video as a looping Media Source, and send OBS’s output to YouTube using a stream key from YouTube Studio. Before going live, test your actual upload speed and choose a bitrate that leaves YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. YouTube Live’s playback loop button only repeats a video for an individual viewer; it does not create a live broadcast.

What you need before setting up the loop

  • A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible to livestream, and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
  • A computer with OBS Studio and the yoga video stored locally. If you want a playlist of multiple clips, install VLC as well.
  • A stable broadband connection with enough measured upload capacity for the total stream bitrate. Advertised download speed does not establish that your upload is sufficient.
  • Permission to broadcast the video, music, and any other material in the recording.

Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube Live

  1. Create a stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then copy its stream key. The key connects OBS to the broadcast; treat it like a password and never display or share it. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
  2. Make an OBS scene. In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source. Select the local yoga video file and enable Loop in the source properties. OBS will play the file again when it reaches the end. The setting is documented in the OBS Media Sources reference.
  3. Use a playlist if you need several clips. Add a VLC Video source, add the video files to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. For one repeating video, Media Source is the simpler choice.
  4. Configure the YouTube connection. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube RTMPS or the appropriate YouTube service integration, and select or enter the stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection through Google’s servers. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
  5. Set resolution and bitrate based on upload, not the broadband plan label. The YouTube H.264 recommendations below are video bitrates; include audio and any backup stream when estimating total bitrate. Keep the total below the upload capacity measured under likely broadcast conditions, with about 20% headroom.
  6. Test before the intended broadcast. Start an unlisted stream, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, confirm picture and sound, and verify playback on a second device. YouTube recommends testing before the event and monitoring stream health while live.
  7. Go live and monitor it. Start streaming from OBS and watch stream health in YouTube Studio. If the broadband connection fails, the encoder may disconnect; be ready to reconnect OBS and check the Live Control Room before resuming.

Choose a resolution and upload bitrate

YouTube’s current encoder table recommends these H.264 video bitrates. It also lists a minimum, but merely meeting a minimum does not guarantee a stable stream on a variable connection.

Output YouTube recommended video bitrate YouTube minimum video bitrate
480p at 30 fps 4 Mbps 0.4 Mbps
720p at 30 fps 6 Mbps 3 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps 5 Mbps

These figures are YouTube’s recommendations, not a promise that a particular Indian broadband package will support them. Measure upload speed when other household or office traffic is representative, and consider testing at the time of day you plan to stream. As a practical calculation, if your stream’s total bitrate is 6 Mbps, the 20% margin means the available upload should be about 7.5 Mbps or more: 6 Mbps divided by 0.8. Leave room for audio and any backup stream too. Choose a lower output if the connection cannot sustain the higher total reliably.

For yoga, decide whether the image is clear enough to follow posture and movement on the screens your audience is likely to use. Higher resolution is not useful if the upload fluctuates enough to interrupt the broadcast. YouTube’s protocol and bitrate recommendations are in Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; its network advice is in Streaming tips.

What Indian broadband subscribers should check

TRAI does not prescribe a universal minimum upload or download speed for broadband. Providers must declare typical speeds in tariff offerings; TRAI says at least 90% of measured test samples during testing must meet or exceed the declared typical speed. Speeds may also be reduced after a plan’s fair-usage threshold. Check your provider’s terms and measure your own upload rather than treating an advertised download tier as a livestream guarantee. TRAI points consumers to its MySpeed app or portal for speed measurement; see its BroadBand FAQ.

YouTube cautions that total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving about 20% room. Shared Wi-Fi, simultaneous video calls, backups, or other household use can reduce the upload available to OBS; a disruption in connectivity can break the stream. A wired computer-to-router connection may avoid some Wi-Fi variability, but it cannot fix an insufficient or unstable ISP upload service.

Copyright and YouTube Live rules for yoga recordings

Use the yoga video, soundtrack, voiceover, and any other visuals only if you have the rights needed for live broadcasting. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have licensed third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. The completed archive can also receive a Content ID claim after the stream ends. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot common setup problems

  • You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel is verified and eligible, and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first stream, activation may take up to 24 hours; enable it early rather than waiting until broadcast time.
  • The video stops at the end instead of repeating: Open the OBS Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-file VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist.
  • OBS cannot use the VLC source: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  • The stream drops frames or stream health degrades: Check upload speed and competing network use, then reduce the total bitrate or output resolution if necessary. Keep the recommended headroom; a faster advertised download speed does not solve an upload bottleneck.
  • YouTube interrupts the broadcast or shows a copyright notice: Review the video and audio rights. If licensed third-party content is being matched, ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for the channel.
  • The preview is blank or audio is missing: Confirm the right local file is selected, the OBS source is visible and unmuted as appropriate, and the YouTube preview receives the expected picture and sound during an unlisted test.
