For a continuous stream of prerecorded bhajans, darshan clips, or ceremonies, use cloud playout: upload the videos, arrange them as a playlist, connect the service to YouTube Live with your stream key, and let it send the feed. A phone can broadcast live camera footage, but YouTube’s documented mobile workflow does not offer a way to select an existing playlist as the live source. If the temple needs a live camera view instead, the YouTube mobile app is a separate option with eligibility requirements.
Can I stream a YouTube playlist live from my phone?
Not through the documented mobile live-streaming workflow. YouTube describes mobile streaming for a phone camera or a screencast; its encoder workflow sends a feed produced by an encoder. Neither is the same as selecting a YouTube playlist and broadcasting its prerecorded videos as a continuous live stream. See YouTube’s mobile streaming instructions and encoder setup instructions.
Choose the source based on what devotees should see:
- Live view of the temple: use a phone or camera as the live video source. A phone can stream from the YouTube app if the channel and device meet YouTube’s requirements.
- A sequence of existing recordings: use a cloud playout service that sends the playlist to YouTube Live, or a local encoder if a computer can remain on. A phone stand or power bank does not turn a playlist into a live encoder feed.
How to keep the temple channel live all day without a computer
For prerecorded content, the practical no-local-PC route is cloud playout: a service stores or reads your media and sends a continuous RTMP or RTMPS feed to YouTube Live. The temple does not need to keep a computer, its power supply, or its local internet connection running for that feed. Before choosing a provider, check its current terms and test the complete workflow; a provider’s description alone does not establish its reliability or suitability for your channel.

Set up and test the playlist
- Confirm the channel can go live. Check YouTube Studio’s live controls and resolve any restrictions before scheduling the service. YouTube’s mobile eligibility rules are separate and are listed below.
- Prepare the recordings. Gather only the videos the temple has permission to broadcast. Confirm that the picture, sound, and order are appropriate for a continuous service. Religious use by itself does not establish that the channel has rights to music, recordings, images, or ceremony footage.
- Choose a cloud provider and check its details. Ask which formats it accepts, how storage limits work, how playlist order and looping are controlled, where media is stored, what happens after an interruption, and what the payment and cancellation terms are. Also confirm who at the temple can operate the service and how it handles the stream key.
- Connect the service to YouTube Live. Create or select the YouTube broadcast, then copy its stream key into the selected provider’s encoder settings. Treat the key like a password: share it only with the provider you have chosen, and regenerate it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the stream URL and key workflow.
- Run an unlisted test before going public. Check video and audio, playlist order, and playback on a phone and television. Briefly interrupt the network if practical, then confirm the service reconnects and resumes as expected. These checks help you assess a provider; they are not a guarantee against future outages.
- Plan how to preserve replays. YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete replay matters, schedule sessions under 12 hours and maintain a separate recording workflow. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
When the phone is the right option
Use the YouTube mobile app when the source is a live camera view or phone screencast—not when the requirement is to play a prerecorded playlist continuously. YouTube’s current mobile help page lists these requirements: at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, live streaming enabled, and Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. A channel with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a mobile audience limit, and archived mobile streams may default to private while that safeguard applies. Check the channel’s own Live control before relying on a particular launch date. Requirements can change; consult YouTube’s current mobile instructions.
Cloud playout or a local encoder?
A local software encoder can send a playlist or other prepared feed to YouTube, but the computer and network must stay available. A hardware encoder is another encoder-based route, though the cited YouTube setup guidance does not establish that a particular hardware device can loop a playlist without a computer. | Question | Cloud playout | Local encoder |
|---|---|---|
| Must a temple computer stay on? | No local computer is required for the cloud feed. | Yes, for a local software encoder; a separate hardware encoder may be used, but confirm its playlist capability. |
| Where are media stored? | Depends on the provider; ask where and for how long. | On the temple’s chosen storage or playback system; details depend on setup. |
| Playlist order and looping? | Confirm controls with the provider. | Depends on the encoder and playlist workflow. |
| Recovery after a drop? | Ask the provider how reconnection works and test it. | Depends on encoder configuration and local network recovery. |
| Costs? | Check current service, storage, and payment terms. | Account for equipment, power, internet, and any software costs; actual costs depend on the setup. |
| Local recording for replay? | Arrange a separate recording if needed. | A local recording may be possible, but confirm the encoder workflow and storage capacity. |
| Who operates it? | Confirm account access, controls, and support arrangements with the provider. | Someone must maintain the computer or encoder and network. |
These are workflow differences, not a price or reliability ranking. YouTube documents the encoder connection, but provider performance, current terms, and suitability for a particular Indian temple need to be checked directly.

Common problems and what to check
- The playlist is not appearing as a live source: a YouTube playlist is not itself an encoder feed. Use cloud playout for prerecorded videos, or use the phone for a live camera view.
- YouTube does not accept the connection: verify that the broadcast is set up correctly and that the selected service has the current stream key. If the key may have been shared or exposed, replace it and update the encoder.
- The stream starts but video or audio is missing: inspect the source files and service settings during an unlisted test, then check playback from another device before making the broadcast public.
- The feed stops after an interruption: check the provider’s reconnection behavior or, for a local setup, the encoder and network. Test recovery in advance rather than assuming it will resume.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a very long broadcast may exceed YouTube’s automatic archive capture. Keep sessions under 12 hours when you need an automatic archive, and use an independent recording for important replays.
- A phone cannot start a live stream: check subscriber eligibility, verification, restrictions, live-stream enablement, device OS, and first-time activation time against YouTube’s mobile help page.
Before going live: temple-channel checklist
- Decide whether the broadcast is live camera coverage or prerecorded playlist playout.
- Confirm the channel can stream and, if using a phone, meets the mobile-specific requirements.
- Check rights to all devotional music, recordings, images, and ceremony footage; do not assume religious purpose alone grants permission.
- Keep the stream key private and share it only with the chosen encoder or cloud provider.
- Test an unlisted stream on the devices devotees are likely to use, and verify playlist order, sound, and recovery after a brief interruption.
- Set a replay plan separately from the continuous broadcast, especially if a session could run longer than 12 hours.
