You can broadcast prerecorded video as a YouTube Live stream from India using an encoder, but plan a 24/7 channel as an ongoing operation—not as a guarantee that one broadcast will stay live forever. You need an eligible channel, a stream URL and key, a tested encoder, a way to monitor and recover the feed, and a rights-cleared playlist. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise indefinite uptime or a complete archive for longer broadcasts.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meets YouTube’s minimum age requirement for livestreaming: 16 years old. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before scheduling a launch.
- Prerecorded videos you have the rights to stream, plus an encoder that can send them to YouTube Live.
- A reliable upload connection with enough capacity for your selected stream bitrate, with additional bandwidth headroom.
- A plan for monitoring the stream, recovering after interruptions, and handling YouTube’s replay/archive limits.
In India, the reviewed YouTube requirements do not establish a separate technical rule for an ordinary private channel. Follow YouTube’s requirements and applicable rights and legal terms. The National Informatics Centre describes providing live and on-demand webcast services, including 24×7 government-channel webcasts, and lists OBS as an encoder option; that is local webcast context, not a guarantee of private-channel eligibility or YouTube uptime.
Choose how to run the encoder
YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. A software encoder is a reasonable place to start; hardware is optional for creators who want a standalone or more advanced production setup. YouTube’s encoder guidance also lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, but that listing does not establish a provider’s availability in India or its terms.
| Approach | Who operates it | What to consider for continuous streaming |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder | Your computer runs the encoder. | Plan for the computer, power, and internet connection to remain available, and decide how you will monitor and restart the feed. YouTube supports software encoders; expensive hardware is not required to begin. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated physical encoder sends the feed. | It is an optional equipment route. You still need a suitable source, connection, monitoring, and recovery plan. |
| Cloud streaming service | A provider runs the streaming process in the cloud. | It can avoid reliance on a home computer staying on. Check the provider’s current availability, terms, costs, playlist behavior, and recovery process directly. |
For a local setup, OBS is one software encoder option: NIC lists it among encoder options for its webcast service. Choose a cloud service if you do not want your own computer, power, and home connection to operate the encoder around the clock.

Enable live streaming and prepare the videos
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio if needed; first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Prepare a rights-cleared playlist. Confirm you can use the video, music, images, and other material in a public live broadcast. Keep rights documentation available and ask rights holders to allowlist your channel if their content-matching process requires it.
- Decide how you will schedule sessions. YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours. Design handoffs or restarts around that limit, and do not promise that a longer broadcast will have a complete replay.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and choose the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the matching encoder fields. Treat the key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Set up the encoder to play your prerecorded video or playlist and send it to YouTube. Select the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your connection can sustain; there is no single best setting for every upload connection or source.
- Start the encoder and check YouTube’s incoming preview and stream health before making the broadcast public or beginning the scheduled event. Confirm both picture and audio, and verify from a viewer’s perspective that the feed is visible as intended.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the stream URL and key workflow. Its encoder settings guidance recommends testing the upload connection and leaving about 20% bandwidth above the stream bitrate. For example, if the encoder sends at 5 Mbps, aim for roughly 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions in which you will stream. Connection variation can still cause problems, so test at the intended time and location.
Operate the channel continuously
Monitor the feed
Check that the stream remains visible and that audio, video, and stream health are normal. Monitoring matters even when a playlist is automated: power loss, internet failure, encoder errors, and platform interruptions can break continuity. Define who will notice an outage and how they will restart or replace the session.

Plan for interruptions and handoffs
A 24/7 schedule is not the same as a single broadcast guaranteed to run without interruption. YouTube’s encoder instructions do not promise indefinite uptime. Use a restart or session-handoff plan, test recovery before launch, and verify the new feed after each change. If a local encoder stops, troubleshoot the computer, power, network, and encoder before restarting.
Handle archives separately from live continuity
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not make the same promise for longer sessions, so do not assume a 24-hour stream will produce a complete replay. If a replay matters, plan sessions and any separate recording or archive process around the under-12-hour guidance.

Follow copyright and YouTube policies
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can interrupt or terminate a stream, and having a licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel. Resolve that with the rights holder before relying on licensed material in a long-running feed. YouTube also requires compliance with its Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and applicable laws. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its live-streaming policies.
For a documentary channel, check each film and every embedded element—not only the main video. A programme may contain footage, music, photographs, or clips licensed for a different use or territory. A permission that does not cover a public livestream can still create a rights problem.

Monetization is a separate decision
Running a channel 24/7 does not itself qualify it for monetization or guarantee ad revenue. YouTube reviews channels for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), and eligibility depends on its policies and channel status. YouTube’s India-facing YPP eligibility guidance lists the ad-revenue threshold alternatives as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the prior 90 days, alongside other requirements. These thresholds do not replace review, and other features can have separate eligibility conditions that may depend on country, age, and channel status.

| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is not available | The channel may not be verified, may have a restriction in the prior 90 days, or first-time enablement may still be processing. | Check channel status and eligibility in YouTube Studio. If you just enabled live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The stream URL or key may be missing, incorrect, or entered in the wrong field. | Copy the current server URL and key from Live Control Room into the encoder. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder. |
| Preview is unstable or stream health shows problems | Upload capacity may be too low or variable for the chosen bitrate. | Test from the actual streaming connection, lower the bitrate or resolution if needed, and leave about 20% upload headroom above the bitrate. |
| The local stream stops unexpectedly | The computer, encoder, power, or internet connection may have failed. | Check the encoder status, machine and power, then network connectivity. Restart the encoder and confirm that YouTube receives the replacement feed. |
| The stream is interrupted or terminated after a content match | YouTube detected third-party material, or the rights holder has not allowlisted the channel. | Review YouTube’s copyright notice, remove or replace the matched material if you lack the required rights, and contact the rights holder about allowlisting where you have permission. |
| A long broadcast has no complete replay | YouTube’s automatic archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed archive of a longer broadcast. | Use shorter planned sessions if YouTube’s automatic archive is important, and arrange separate recording or archiving if you need a complete programme. |
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The stream runs in the cloud, so your computer and home internet connection do not have to stay on. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 24/7 looping and playlists, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, support from the StreamNeo team, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
