This is the archived September 18, 2024 edition of NYT Connections, game #465—not the different puzzle published on September 18, 2025. Spoilers below: the four groups are outdoor areas at a home, words for inside information, kinds of reels, and cartoon dogs with their final Y removed.

Hints for Connections #465

If you want a nudge before seeing the full groups, try these connections in order:

  1. Look for four places outside a residence.
  2. Find four informal words for information or the inside story.
  3. Think of four types of reels.
  4. For the remaining words, restore a final letter to reveal cartoon dogs.

Connections answers for September 18, 2024

The complete solution for game #465 is:

Color Category Words
Yellow GATHERING SPOT OUTSIDE A RESIDENCE DECK, PORCH, STOOP, YARD
Green LOWDOWN DISH, DOPE, INFO, SCOOP
Blue KINDS OF REELS BLOOPER, DEMO, HIGHLIGHT, SIZZLE
Purple CARTOON DOGS MINUS “Y” DROOP, GOOF, LAD, SNOOP

These groups are reported by TechRadar, Try Hard Guides, and DocumentaryTube’s archive guide.

How the groups fit together

Yellow: outdoor gathering places

A DECK, PORCH, STOOP, or YARD can all be a place to gather outside a residence. The words describe different parts of a home’s surroundings, rather than one precise architectural feature.

Green: informal words for information

DISH, DOPE, INFO, and SCOOP can each mean information or the inside story. Some words have other common meanings, so focus on this shared sense.

Blue: kinds of reels

BLOOPER, DEMO, HIGHLIGHT, and SIZZLE each describe a kind of reel: for example, a blooper reel, demo reel, highlight reel, or sizzle reel.

Purple: cartoon dogs with the Y restored

Add a final Y to each word to reveal a cartoon-dog name: DROOP becomes Droopy, GOOF becomes Goofy, LAD becomes Lady, and SNOOP becomes Snoopy. SNOOP can suggest information-gathering, but the puzzle’s intended connection is the dog-name wordplay.

A practical way to approach this puzzle

The groups reward different kinds of pattern recognition. Start with the concrete set of outdoor places, then test words that share a meaning, followed by the format-based reel terms. Leave the letter trick for last if the remaining words do not form an obvious semantic group. In Connections, an appealing overlap—such as SNOOP’s association with snooping—does not necessarily define the category; check whether all four words fit the same intended interpretation.
