Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAdd an OBS Image Source for the church logo and a Text Source for service times, then place both above the sermon video in the Sources list. Use Studio Mode to preview layout changes before transitioning them live. OBS can keep an overlay on screen while the stream is running, but YouTube’s published guidance does not promise an indefinitely connected session; plan to monitor the stream and handle interruptions.
Prepare the logo and schedule
- Use artwork the church is authorized to display. A transparent PNG is a practical option for a logo that should sit over video without a solid background.
- Keep schedule wording short enough to read at the stream’s output size. For example: “Sunday worship • 10:00 AM.” Add the time zone if viewers may be watching from elsewhere.
- Decide who will maintain the schedule and how often it changes. That determines whether to type it in OBS or read it from a text file.
Add the logo and schedule in OBS
- Create or select a scene. In OBS, use a scene for the sermon stream. Add the camera, capture card, or video source that supplies the sermon picture.
- Add the logo. In the Sources panel, select + and choose Image. Name the source, choose the logo file, and confirm. OBS documents Image Sources at OBS Image Sources.
- Add the schedule. Select + and choose Text (GDI+) on Windows or Text (FreeType 2) on macOS and Linux. Enter the schedule, then set the font, size, color, and any background or outline options needed for contrast. See OBS Text Sources.
- Set the layer order. In the Sources list, move the logo and text above the sermon source. Sources higher in the list render in front of those below them, as explained in the OBS Sources Guide.
- Position and size each element. Select a source in the preview and drag it into place; use the bounding handles to resize. Keep the logo and schedule clear of faces, captions, and important on-screen content. Inspect the composition at the actual output resolution rather than judging only from a small preview.
Choose how to update service times
| Method | How it works | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Text entered in OBS | Edit the Text Source’s text field in its Properties. | A fixed schedule or updates made by the OBS operator. |
| Read from file | Enable Read from file in Text Source properties and select a maintained text file. | When another volunteer needs to update wording without rebuilding the scene. Confirm changes appear in the OBS preview before taking them live. |
| Browser Source | Load a local page or URL as a browser-rendered overlay. | A genuinely dynamic or custom web layout. It adds complexity and may use significant resources; OBS recommends minimizing Browser Sources. For a static logo, use an Image Source instead. See OBS Browser Source and OBS Encoding Performance Troubleshooting. |
Preview changes without putting them on air
Turn on Studio Mode in OBS. It separates the scene currently live from the scene being prepared in Preview. Edit and inspect the logo and schedule in Preview, then select Transition when the layout is ready. The OBS Studio Overview Guide explains Studio Mode and its preview/live panes.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. Keep the key private: YouTube describes stream keys as like a stream’s password and address. Do not show it in screenshots or share it in public instructions. See Manage live stream settings.
- Review the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop controls in YouTube’s settings if you intend to use them. These controls affect starting and stopping from the encoder; they do not establish automatic recovery from an internet, power, or encoder failure.
- Before a service, run a private or unlisted test when appropriate. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview, the public-facing watch page, audio, overlay placement, and stream health. OBS recommends testing settings before a first stream; YouTube also recommends testing and monitoring. See the OBS Quick Start Guide and YouTube live streaming tips.
Set encoder quality for the actual stream
Use a stable upload connection and choose settings for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you will send. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS for Live ingestion and provides separate bitrate recommendations for H.264, AV1, and H.265; there is no single bitrate that applies to every codec and output. It also lists CBR, a recommended two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and up to 60 fps. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings table for the exact bitrate matching your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then test and monitor the result.
What “nonstop” means for YouTube and OBS
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that streams longer than 12 hours will be archived, nor does it promise that one OBS session can remain connected indefinitely. Treat “nonstop” as an operating goal, not a guarantee of endless uptime: verify the intended recurring or continuous setup in the channel’s current Live Control Room, monitor it, and have someone ready to respond if the encoder, computer, power, or network fails. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings control encoder start/stop behavior, not failure recovery.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Troubleshoot common overlay and stream problems
- Logo or text is hidden: Move its source above the sermon source in the Sources list. Check that the source is visible and not covered by another source.
- Logo appears with an unwanted solid background: Check whether the artwork file includes transparency; use an authorized transparent version if the church has one.
- Schedule is too small or hard to read: Shorten the wording, increase the text size, or improve contrast against the video. Recheck the result at the stream’s output size.
- Text-file edits do not appear: Confirm Read from file is enabled and the source points to the intended file. Reopen the source properties and inspect the preview before transitioning.
- Changes appear to viewers before they are ready: Use Studio Mode and make the edits in Preview; transition only after checking the result.
- Video stutters or encoding falls behind: Test a suitable output and bitrate for the available connection, and review OBS’s encoding performance troubleshooting guidance. A Browser Source can add rendering load, so remove unnecessary browser overlays.
- YouTube does not show the expected stream or archive: Check the selected Live Control Room event, stream key, encoder status, and current YouTube settings. The automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours; it is not a guarantee for longer sessions.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the church wants a prerecorded sermon or playlist to keep playing on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is the cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a live camera, and it is not an OBS overlay editor. The service keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start the free trial at StreamNeo.
