OBS can play the files in order and repeat the list, but its documented playlist controls do not automatically replace the list on a weekly calendar. Plan on a manual update unless you have separately configured and tested an automation.
Build the playlist in OBS
For one repeating recording, use OBS’s regular Media Source. For several files, use a VLC Video source. VLC must be installed for that source to appear; match its architecture to OBS (64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC). See the OBS media sources guide.
- Prepare this week’s files. Keep the recordings you are authorized to use together in a clearly named folder or list, and decide their sequence before editing the scene.
- Add a VLC Video source. In OBS, select or create the scene for the bhajan stream, add a VLC Video source, and add the week’s files to its playlist.
- Set the playback behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a planned devotional sequence. Turn on Loop Playlist if the full list should repeat. If you want a randomized sequence, enable shuffle intentionally and test the result.
- Check every file and the transition behavior. Play through the list, confirm the order, audio, visuals, and loop behavior, and save the scene collection or profile with a name that identifies the week.
Looping repeats the current list; it does not schedule a different list for next week. The straightforward documented workflow is to replace or edit the playlist manually before each week’s event. OBS’s playlist controls do not establish a calendar-based weekly swap.
Schedule and start the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live, then use the Manage tab to schedule the event. You can create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream; check the title, date and time, privacy, and other reused details.
- Scheduling can show the event as upcoming, allow viewers to set reminders, and give you a watch URL to share. These steps schedule the YouTube event; they do not change the OBS playlist.
- Open the event’s Live Control Room and connect OBS using the stream URL and stream key shown there. Treat the key like a password: it directs the encoder feed to your event and should not be shared publicly.
- Start the encoder in OBS, inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room, and start the YouTube event when the feed looks and sounds right. Keep an eye on audio and video during the broadcast.
Because YouTube Studio labels can change, follow the current Live Control Room interface. YouTube’s instructions cover scheduling individual streams and reusing settings, not automatic weekly playlist replacement. See YouTube’s scheduling instructions and encoder livestreaming instructions.

Run a preflight check before each week
- Confirm this week’s playlist contains the intended files in the intended order; test individual playback and the loop.
- Check that you have permission for each specific recording and visual for livestream use and, if you will keep the broadcast archive, for that use too.
- Verify the scheduled event’s title, date, time, privacy, and any reused settings. Keep the stream key private.
- Start OBS early enough to inspect the incoming preview. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.
- Confirm that the watch page is accessible and monitor picture and sound. If you are uncertain about the setup, run an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream first.

Check rights for the actual bhajan recordings
A traditional composition or devotional song does not automatically make a particular recording rights-cleared. Check the specific sound recording, performance, arrangement, and accompanying image or video. Make sure the permission covers livestreaming and, if relevant, archiving and monetization. YouTube identifies public-domain music and music used with permission as safer options; a “free” label alone does not prevent a Content ID claim. Its music policies explain the platform’s guidance.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, a match may still interrupt the event unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
