Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo set up Streamlabs Desktop, install it from Streamlabs, complete onboarding, choose whether to import OBS settings or start fresh, then build a scene and test your video and audio before going live. A webcam and microphone are optional: you can use built-in devices or make a screen-only recording or stream.
Check compatibility before installing
Streamlabs’ hardware guidance has changed across its support pages, and its minimum Windows entries are inconsistent. The dedicated requirements page, last updated April 8, 2026, lists Windows 11 or macOS 12 as minimums but lists Windows 10 or macOS 13 or later in its recommended section. A newer quick-start guide from May 2026 lists Windows 11 or macOS 12 as minimums and Windows 11 or macOS 13 or later as recommended. Check the current requirements page and installer for your system before committing to a setup.
The recommended hardware categories include an Intel Core i5 11th or 12th generation or newer, or AMD Ryzen 5000 series or newer; an NVIDIA RTX 20/30 series or AMD RX 5000/6000 series GPU; 16 GB or more RAM; and an SSD of 512 GB or larger. Streamlabs lists 8 GB RAM as a minimum. These are publisher recommendations, not guarantees of performance for every scene or workload. Its guidance says Ethernet is recommended and that “3.6 Mbps or better” upload is enough for 720p at 30 fps for most platforms. Actual needs depend on platform, network stability, and stream settings.
See Streamlabs’ Quick Start Guide and its System Requirements page for current details.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Install and complete onboarding
- Download Streamlabs Desktop from Streamlabs. Use the official download page at streamlabs.com. The installer selects a version for your computer and may add required background components, such as Windows Redistributables.
- Open the installer and grant permissions. If your operating system asks, allow camera and microphone access. On a Mac, Streamlabs can detect built-in camera and microphone devices; you can add external devices later.
- Choose streaming or recording. The onboarding flow asks whether you intend to stream live or record. Follow the sign-in options shown in your installed version: Streamlabs recommends a Streamlabs ID, while its quick-start guide also describes proceeding without creating one. Connect the account for your intended streaming platform when prompted.
- Import settings or start fresh. If you have OBS Studio settings to bring over, choose the import option. Otherwise, select Start Fresh.
- Select devices and a theme. Choose the camera and microphone you plan to use. Select an overlay theme if you want one, or skip it and revisit the design later. Streamlabs presents a free Starter option and a paid Ultra option; basic setup does not require Ultra.
Streamlabs’ onboarding screens can change. If the exact labels differ, follow the equivalent choices in the current version. Its getting-started guide explains the current first-run choices.
Build a scene for your content
A scene is the layout Streamlabs sends to a recording or broadcast. Add only the sources your content needs; a documentary discussion might use a camera, microphone, and supporting screen content, while a screen-only recording needs no camera source.
- In the Sources panel, add Game Capture for supported gameplay or Screen Capture to show the desktop or another on-screen application.
- To add a camera, add Video Capture Device and select the intended webcam or built-in camera.
- Add optional widgets such as Alert Box or Chat Box only if you want them visible in the scene.
- Arrange sources in the list deliberately. Sources higher in the stack appear in front, so put the webcam above gameplay if it should appear as an overlay.
For a first broadcast, keep the layout simple enough to check at a glance: confirm that the main content is visible, overlays do not obscure important details, and the camera is framed where you expect.

Set up and verify audio
Video and audio devices are separate checks. Selecting a microphone does not necessarily capture computer or game sound, especially on macOS.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Microphone: Open the audio settings, choose the intended Mic/Aux device, speak at your usual volume, and check that its meter responds in the mixer.
- Windows desktop audio: Streamlabs says the desktop-audio device should match the default output device selected in Windows Sound Settings. If the meter stays inactive, check that Windows’ default device and Streamlabs’ selected device agree.
- macOS desktop audio: Capturing computer audio may require audio-routing software. Streamlabs’ guide points to a BlackHole setup guide; choosing a microphone alone will not capture desktop or game sound.
Listen to a short test recording or stream as well as watching the meters. A moving meter confirms signal activity, but listening helps catch muted, distorted, or incorrectly routed audio.
Choose video resolution and test before going live
Open Settings > Video. Set Base (Canvas) Resolution to your monitor’s native resolution, then set Output (Scaled) Resolution to the resolution you intend to send to the platform. Streamlabs does not prescribe one universal best setting; choose based on your computer, the content, and the platform’s requirements.

Streamlabs states, “There is not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to the best Stream settings.” Its quick-start guidance does not establish one bitrate or frame-rate setting suitable for every platform and system, so do not treat a single preset as universally correct.
- Make a short local test recording, or use a private test stream if your platform supports it.
- Check the picture for the right source, resolution, framing, and overlay order.
- Check your voice and desktop/game audio separately, including levels and whether either is missing or distorted.
- Only announce the broadcast after the test looks and sounds as intended.
This test is a sensible first-run check, not a Streamlabs requirement.
Choose Starter or Ultra based on what you need
Streamlabs offers a free Starter option alongside paid Ultra. Its getting-started material presents premium overlays, multistreaming, and custom tipping pages as Ultra benefits. If you only need to complete basic onboarding and build a scene, the material does not indicate that Ultra is necessary. Compare the current plan details in Streamlabs before subscribing, since features and availability can change.

Troubleshoot common first-run problems
Installer fails or the app will not launch
Confirm that your operating system is supported by the current installer and requirements page. Streamlabs’ getting-started guidance recommends updating Windows and graphics drivers, then restarting after driver or software updates. If installation issues persist, the same guide suggests installing both the 32-bit and 64-bit Visual C++ 2017 Redistributables and rebooting. This is a troubleshooting remedy, not a routine step every new user needs to take.
Camera or microphone is missing
Check that the operating system granted camera or microphone permission, then reopen the device selector and choose the intended device. Close other applications that may be using the device and reconnect an external camera or microphone if necessary.
Microphone or desktop audio is silent
For microphone audio, confirm the selected Mic/Aux device and watch its mixer meter while speaking. On Windows, compare Streamlabs’ desktop-audio selection with the default device in Windows Sound Settings. On macOS, set up audio routing for desktop sound if needed; a selected microphone is not a substitute for routing system audio.

Connectivity or widgets fail
Streamlabs advises allowing Streamlabs Desktop through your firewall and antivirus rules if connectivity or widgets do not work. Make only the necessary application allowance for your security software; do not disable protection as a first step.
Start with a clean app state
If you need to reset Streamlabs Desktop, the getting-started guide gives this path: Settings > Get Support > Clear Cache and Restart. This wipes user data, so use it only when a clean reset is appropriate.
Or let it run in the cloud
Streamlabs Desktop is a do-it-yourself option for composing and operating a broadcast from your computer. If your goal is instead to keep an uploaded video or playlist running as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
