There is no single FFmpeg switch that makes every 24/7 stream reconnect. Match the recovery method to what failed: use HTTP reconnect options for a failing HTTP input, the FIFO muxer for temporary RTMP output failures, -stream_loop -1 to repeat a local music file, and an operating-system service manager to restart an FFmpeg process that exits. These are separate safeguards, not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback.
Choose recovery for the failure you have
First identify the source and destination protocols, then decide whether the failure is at the input, output, or process level. The title alone does not establish what supplies the Hindi music, where the stream is sent, or which operating system hosts FFmpeg.

FFmpeg’s command-line and all-options documentation describe these as distinct features: -stream_loop controls input repetition, HTTP reconnect options apply to HTTP, and the FIFO muxer can attempt to recover an output. A process supervisor operates outside FFmpeg. Installing several layers can improve recovery coverage, but one layer does not substitute for another.
Loop a local music file and recover an RTMP output
If your Hindi music is a local file and the destination accepts RTMP, this illustrative pattern loops that input and enables FIFO output recovery:

"rtmp://YOUR_HOST/YOUR_APP/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"This combined command is an adaptation of FFmpeg’s documented loop and FIFO/FLV recovery patterns, not a tested end-to-end Hindi-music configuration. Replace the file path, RTMP endpoint, credentials, and encoding choices with values supported by your actual destination. The audio codec and bitrate shown are example settings, not a universal requirement.
- Put
-stream_loop -1before the input it controls. FFmpeg applies this option to the next input;-1means infinite looping. In this example that input is the local MP3 file after-i. - Use
-refor a local file being sent in real time. It paces reading rather than sending the file as fast as the machine can process it. Confirm the destination’s ingest requirements before changing pacing or encoding options. - Set the output format and FIFO options before the destination. The example uses FIFO with FLV for RTMP and requests recovery after an output failure, waiting one second between recovery attempts. FFmpeg’s documented example with this wait interval attempts recovery indefinitely.
- Choose queue behavior deliberately. With
-drop_pkts_on_overflow 1, a full FIFO queue drops packets so encoding can continue. That can mean missing audio packets; it is not lossless recovery. Without dropping packets, the encoder can block while the muxer catches up. - Test the actual destination. Confirm that it accepts the stream and that playable audio resumes after a controlled network interruption. A running FFmpeg process alone does not prove listeners are receiving valid audio.
Using a playlist rather than one file
Looping one file does not create a multi-track radio playlist, shuffle, or guarantee gapless transitions. Choose a playlist or source strategy that supports the order and metadata you need, then test transitions and reconnection on the actual destination. Do not assume a playlist will continue correctly just because a single-file loop works.

Reconnect an HTTP music source
For an HTTP input that disconnects, put the HTTP protocol options before the input they govern. For example:
ffmpeg -reconnect 1 -reconnect_at_eof 1 -reconnect_streamed 1
-reconnect_delay_max 30
-i "https://YOUR_HTTP_SOURCE" ...OUTPUT_OPTIONS...This is an illustrative input pattern, not a configuration verified against a particular Hindi-music provider. The options address HTTP input conditions such as disconnects before EOF, EOF on an endless stream, streamed or non-seekable input, and TCP/TLS connection errors. FFmpeg also documents options for reconnecting on selected HTTP status codes and setting retry limits, including -reconnect_on_http_error, -reconnect_max_retries, and -reconnect_delay_total_max.

- Choose status codes and retry limits to suit the source provider. A retry policy cannot make an unavailable service return content.
- Check that the installed FFmpeg build supports the options; packaged or custom builds may differ from the current online documentation.
- Confirm that the provider permits automated reconnects and that the source URL remains valid.
- Do not apply these HTTP input options as if they were universal RTMP output recovery. Use the FIFO output mechanism for the separate RTMP output-failure case.
Restart FFmpeg if the process exits
Neither input reconnect flags nor FIFO output recovery can act after FFmpeg has exited. Configure an operating-system service manager or equivalent supervisor to start the process at boot and restart it when it terminates. The exact setup depends on the host OS and service-manager version; no universal service-file recipe is established here.
Verify the supervisor’s restart policy, delay, start limits, boot behavior, and logging against documentation for your target system. Then test a controlled process exit and confirm the expected restart. Supervision can relaunch FFmpeg, but it cannot repair a wrong stream key, incompatible output settings, unavailable music file, or other persistent configuration error.

Secure, run, and verify the stream
- Identify both endpoints. Record whether the source is local, HTTP, or another protocol, and whether the destination is RTMP or something else. Select recovery options that match those protocols.
- Check your installed build. Inspect the local FFmpeg help or documentation for the options available in that version. Online FFmpeg documentation may not match a packaged or custom build.
- Protect credentials. Keep stream keys out of public scripts, screenshots, and logs. Use the secret-handling method appropriate to your deployment.
- Run the command interactively first. Check for errors and verify that the destination accepts it before configuring long-running supervision.
- Test each recovery layer separately. Where safe, test input reconnection, output recovery, and supervisor restart as distinct scenarios. Verify playable audio at the destination or with a client rather than relying only on process status.
- Review logs and hosting conditions. Check logs and destination status, and account for network stability, bandwidth, and power continuity at the host.
Troubleshoot common failures
