Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo set up a 24/7 YouTube vaporwave radio channel, prepare an eligible YouTube channel, clear every track for rebroadcast, create a live event in YouTube Studio, and send a tested audio-and-visual feed through an encoder. YouTube does not guarantee that a single broadcast will run uninterrupted or be archived in full: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so plan monitoring, recovery, and local recording separately.
Before you start: channel eligibility and lead time
You need a YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it well before your planned launch.
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go live.
- Follow the prompts to enable live streaming and verify the channel if requested.
- Check for restrictions, then allow at least 24 hours for first-time activation before announcing a launch.
YouTube’s live eligibility guidance is at YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming; YouTube for Artists also advises enabling a first live stream at least 24 hours ahead in its live streaming guidance.
Clear the music rights before building the broadcast
Rights clearance is a launch prerequisite, not a step to handle after a copyright claim. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the content provider responsible for necessary rights to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights participants. A streaming-service subscription or permission to listen to a track does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it.

- Secure permission for both the musical composition and the specific sound recording, for the territories where the stream will be available and for the intended live use.
- Keep written documentation of permissions and any restrictions, including territory, duration, and attribution requirements.
- Ask the relevant label, distributor, or rightsholder whether the channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist. Even licensed tracks can trigger an interruption if they are not allowlisted.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A detected match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream; if the match remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Review YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams and the YouTube Terms of Service before airing music.
Choose an encoder and prepare the program
YouTube supports encoder streaming when you need to combine audio with artwork, animation, or other production elements. A software encoder such as OBS is one route; hardware encoders are another class of option. The choice affects control, continuity, cost, and the work required to recover from a fault. YouTube does not specify a minimum computer configuration for a 24/7 vaporwave stream, so match a streaming computer to the encoder you choose and the visual workload rather than assuming a particular CPU, memory, or graphics card is required.

Prepare a representative audio-and-visual program before going live. A largely static visual may not need a high frame rate or elaborate graphics; choose resolution, bitrate, and frame rate for the actual material and the upload connection you can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. Use YouTube’s bitrate table for the ingest resolution and codec you select, and test rather than treating a recommendation as a promise of stability.
For an OBS-specific workflow, see the OBS Project guide to streaming with OBS Studio. YouTube’s protocol and encoder settings are described in YouTube Help: Encoder settings for live streaming.

Create the live event and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live and open Live Control Room.
- Create a new stream or schedule one. Add its title, description, visibility, and thumbnail.
- In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: it directs the encoder’s feed to YouTube and enables YouTube to accept it. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream.
- Set the encoder to send RTMPS where available, select the tested codec and bitrate, and configure CBR with a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds).
- Start sending the feed from the encoder. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, inspect stream health, and start the live event when the preview and settings are correct.
Leave upload-bandwidth headroom. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend 20% beyond the primary and backup bitrate; a connection that only just matches the configured bitrate has little room for fluctuations. The official workflow and recommendations are in YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder and encoder settings.
Test the stream and plan for continuous operation
Before the public launch, test with the same kind of audio, motion, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you intend to use. Inspect the Live Control Room preview and health messages; also check the live result on the channel or watch page and on a mobile device. A successful short test confirms the configured workflow but does not prove that the stream will run uninterrupted for days.

- Decide who will check stream health and respond if the feed or YouTube connection drops.
- Write down how to restart the encoder and verify the stream has resumed. The available YouTube and OBS guidance does not establish a particular restart script, VPS, or failover product as a guaranteed 24/7 method.
- Keep the stream key secure and have an authorized person able to access the channel and encoder.
Design around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
A continuously live channel is not necessarily a continuously archived channel. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If retaining the full program matters, make a local recording and confirm it is being written instead of relying on the YouTube archive.
One practical option is to schedule separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours, with an intentional transition between them, and still record locally if a complete copy is important. That can make individual archives more likely, but it does not remove the need to test the transition or keep a recording. See YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

Troubleshoot common launch problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| Go live is unavailable | The channel is not verified, has a recent restriction, or first-time live access has not finished activating. | Check channel verification and live-stream eligibility in YouTube Studio; enable the feature and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| The encoder cannot connect | The stream key or server URL is wrong, or the encoder protocol/settings do not match the intended ingest configuration. | Copy the current server URL and key from Live Control Room, confirm RTMPS and the selected encoder settings, then reconnect. Keep the key private. |
| Preview is missing or stream health shows trouble | The feed has not started, the upload connection is unstable, or the bitrate leaves too little network headroom. | Confirm the encoder is sending, lower bitrate to a sustainable value using YouTube’s table, and reserve the recommended 20% headroom beyond primary and backup bitrates. |
| The live stream is interrupted after a music match | YouTube detected third-party material, or the channel is not allowlisted by the relevant rightsholder. | Resolve the rights issue before restarting; contact the label, distributor, or rightsholder about channel allowlisting. A license alone may not prevent automated interruption. |
| The completed live event has no full archive | The broadcast exceeded 12 hours, or DVR/archive behavior was constrained. | Use a local recording for a complete copy; consider planned sub-12-hour events when archives are needed and verify the recording is working. |
