Before leaving it unattended, test the loop, audio and stream health. A 24/7 stream also depends on the computer and network staying available; OBS’s reconnect option is not a guarantee against power, system or extended network failures.
Before you start: prepare the video, audio and rights
Have the ambience video and any separate audio files ready on the computer running OBS. OBS supports common video formats such as MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WAV. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation for its playback source details.
Use footage and music that you own or are authorized to stream. A file playing correctly in OBS does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. Check the terms that apply to each recording and audio track before going live.
Choose how OBS should play the ambience
One video: Media Source
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the spa stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source.
- Choose the local video file. Enable Loop so OBS replays the file when it reaches the end.
- Set the source’s visibility and audio behavior as appropriate for your scene, then confirm the video and sound appear in the preview and mixer.
Several videos: VLC Video
- Install VLC on the computer if it is not already installed; OBS’s VLC Video source depends on it.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene and add the files to its playlist.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled to repeat the playlist. Use shuffle if you want a non-fixed order.
- Check the source’s visibility behavior. VLC Video has options that affect whether playback continues when the source is not visible.
For the single-file source, Loop controls whether the file plays again after finishing. The VLC source is more suitable when you need a playlist, optional shuffle or playlist looping. OBS documents these controls at obsproject.com/kb/media-sources.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube, open Live Control Room and create or select the livestream. If the channel has not streamed before, check that live streaming is available for the account before scheduling the broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if available, or choose a custom service and enter the server URL and stream key provided by YouTube.
- Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Apply the settings. Start the encoder output in OBS, then complete YouTube’s go-live step if Live Control Room prompts you to do so.
- Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and reports a healthy stream before treating the setup as ready.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes connecting an encoder and notes that some encoders support continuous 24/7 streams. YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that one continuous broadcast longer than that will produce one complete archive.
Set video, bitrate and audio for the connection
In OBS, configure output and video settings for the service and the available upload rate. OBS explains that bitrate must take account of both upload speed and the service’s limits; its overview guide also describes automatic reconnect as an advanced option.

These are YouTube Help’s H.264 encoder ingestion figures, not universal OBS presets. The page does not show a publication date in the retrieved version, so recheck it when configuring a stream. Use a bitrate your connection can sustain; choosing a recommended figure that exceeds your stable upload capacity can make the stream unreliable. YouTube’s current listed guidance also recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Choose a resolution and frame rate that suit the source material and your connection. A static spa scene may not need 60 fps; whichever profile you choose, test it at the intended output settings rather than assuming that a local preview proves the upload is stable.

Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Run a test stream using the same scene, resolution, frame rate, bitrate and audio arrangement you plan to use live.
- Watch the video through its end and confirm it starts again. For a playlist, check that each file advances and the playlist loops as expected.
- Listen for the full audio path: source audio, any separate ambience track, transitions and unexpected silence or clipping.
- Check YouTube’s stream health while the encoder is running. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the actual broadcast; OBS also recommends testing before a first stream. See the OBS Quick Start Guide and YouTube encoder settings.
- Verify that the stream remains live after the initial test and that the output computer, OBS and network will remain available for the planned run.
Plan for interruptions and archive limits
OBS automatic reconnect can help after some connection drops, but it is not a full recovery plan for an operating-system crash, power loss or a prolonged internet outage. The cited OBS guidance does not promise recovery from those failures. A 24/7 setup using OBS requires the computer and connection to stay on; monitor the stream when possible rather than treating a successful test as proof of uninterrupted operation.
For YouTube, the under-12-hour automatic archive condition matters if you want a recording of the stream. A continuous broadcast beyond that duration should not be assumed to yield a single complete archived video. Check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on the livestream as an archive.
