To run binaural beats on YouTube Live around the clock, send a stereo audio feed from an encoder to a verified, eligible YouTube channel, and plan for two limits from the start: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived, and its guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 uptime. Preserve left/right audio separation, test the whole playback chain, and keep a local recording if you need a complete archive.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube documents eligibility and setup at its live-streaming help page.
- An encoder: software on a computer or a hardware encoder that can send an audio-and-visual stream. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming; its guidance does not establish that hardware is necessary for a simple audio broadcast.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream. YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom; account for both primary and backup streams if you send them simultaneously. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- A stereo binaural audio source and, if desired, a static or animated visual. Check that the signal remains stereo through encoding and playback.
- A plan for outages, monitoring, and local recordings. Continuous broadcasting is not the same as guaranteed availability.
Set up the YouTube broadcast and encoder
1. Create or schedule a stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Create a new stream or schedule one.
- Set the title, description, privacy, and applicable stream options. Scheduling can make a watch page available before the broadcast begins.
- In the Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: someone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it using YouTube’s stream-key controls; see YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
2. Preserve the binaural signal
Binaural beats are perceived when different tones are presented separately to the two ears; the perceived beat corresponds to their frequency difference. The 2023 systematic review describes headphones as commonly used to keep the tones directed to their intended ears (PLOS ONE, 2023).
For the broadcast, use a true stereo source and do not collapse it to mono. Confirm that the left and right channels remain distinct after the encoder and when listening to the YouTube playback. Headphones are a useful optional way to check the separation and monitor sound, but they are not part of the transmission setup and do not create the tones. Keep monitoring volume comfortable.
3. Choose conservative encoder settings
YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingestion; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds, and lists 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 kbps stereo audio as recommended advanced settings. RTMPS provides encrypted delivery. Check the current YouTube settings table for video bitrate recommendations, which vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec.

- Select a resolution and frame rate your encoder and upload connection can sustain. A static visual may not need much motion, but the applicable YouTube ingestion settings still matter.
- Use constant bitrate encoding and the recommended keyframe interval. Do not treat a bitrate as universal: choose from YouTube’s table for your actual codec and video configuration.
- Set audio to stereo and verify the left/right content in the encoded output. Avoid mono processing at any point in the signal chain.
- Leave upload headroom rather than configuring the stream to consume all available upstream capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom and monitoring stream quality.
4. Test before going public
YouTube advises setting up the encoder stream at least two hours before the planned event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes beforehand. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then verify the watch-page playback on the channel and on a mobile device. Listen for silence, clipping, missing channels, and audible loop transitions; check the stream-health indicators.
If you need a recording, confirm that a local recording is being written and that its file is growing. YouTube recommends testing backup-encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable. Treat this as a test of your particular setup, not a promise of seamless recovery.

Make a 24/7 broadcast resilient
A continuous stream can fail because of an encoder process stopping, power loss, network loss, a source file or loop error, or an issue that nobody notices. YouTube recommends using a reliable network, retaining 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, and testing backup failover. Monitoring and a recovery plan matter as much as the initial setup.
- Check that the source loops correctly and that the encoder continues transmitting after a loop transition.
- Monitor stream health and actual playback, not only the encoder’s local status.
- Plan for power and internet interruptions and decide who or what will notice a failure and restart the feed.
- If running primary and backup encoders, include their combined bitrate in your upload-capacity calculation.
- Record locally and manage storage deliberately, including recording rotation if the stream runs indefinitely.
Will YouTube archive a 24/7 stream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but cautions that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast to create a complete YouTube archive. Keep a local recording if the full program matters, verify that it is being saved, and plan storage and rotation. Shorter scheduled events may suit creators who need YouTube archives, but splitting the broadcast changes the uninterrupted-stream experience. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Describe binaural beats without promising a health effect
Evidence does not justify promising that a particular binaural frequency will reliably entrain brainwaves or treat a condition. A 2023 systematic review of 14 EEG studies found five results consistent with the brainwave-entrainment hypothesis, eight contradictory results, and one mixed result; its authors noted substantial methodological variation and urged caution (PLOS ONE, 2023).
A 2019 meta-analysis of 22 studies and 35 effect sizes reported an overall effect size of g = 0.45 across cognition, anxiety, and pain outcomes. The authors also reported that effects varied with frequency, exposure duration, and timing (Psychological Research, 2019). That pooled result does not show that an individual YouTube stream treats anxiety or pain, or that a specific frequency will produce a particular mental state. Describe the audio and its intended listening context rather than presenting a medical or guaranteed brainwave claim.

Troubleshooting common problems
