For a 1080p YouTube Live stream using H.264, set OBS to 10,000 Kbps at 30 fps or 12,000 Kbps at 60 fps, with CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. These are YouTube’s recommended ingest bitrates, not a guarantee your internet connection or computer can sustain them. A Kannada playlist does not need a different bitrate: choose based on codec, resolution and output frame rate.
Recommended OBS settings for 1080p
YouTube’s live encoder settings list the following H.264 values for 1080p. The minimums are platform-listed figures, not recommended targets for every connection; YouTube’s encoder table should be checked if you use a supported codec other than H.264.
| Output | YouTube recommended bitrate | YouTube listed minimum |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 10 Mbps (10,000 Kbps) | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps, H.264 | 12 Mbps (12,000 Kbps) | 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current live-encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026; the Help page reviewed did not show a publication date. They describe the stream sent to YouTube, not the playback resolutions viewers will necessarily receive, since YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple formats. YouTube’s live encoder settings lists the changeable bitrate values and supported protocol and codec requirements.
Set the bitrate and video output in OBS
- Set the output resolution and frame rate: Open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080. Choose 30 or 60 fps to match the source and intended presentation.
- Set the stream bitrate: Open Settings → Output and select the streaming output settings. Set Video Bitrate to 10,000 Kbps for 1080p30 or 12,000 Kbps for 1080p60 when using H.264.
- Use CBR: Set the rate control to CBR, as YouTube recommends for live streaming.
- Set the keyframe interval: Enter 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Configure audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as audio codecs. For stereo, its settings specify 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.
- Connect to YouTube Live: In OBS, use the stream key and server settings provided in YouTube Studio. YouTube recommends RTMPS; choose it where it is available in the connection settings.
OBS settings labels or available options can vary by version and output mode. OBS’s overview explains where to find output and video settings and notes that 60 fps can place more load on the system. OBS Studio Overview.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose 30 fps or 60 fps for the playlist
Use the source and the presentation you want as your guide. A mostly static playlist visual may be fine at 30 fps if that matches the source. Choose 60 fps when smoother motion matters and both the computer and connection can handle it. That 30 fps suggestion for low-motion content is practical guidance, not a YouTube rule for Kannada playlists.
- If the source video is 30 fps, setting OBS to 60 fps does not add new source motion.
- 60 fps can increase rendering and encoding load. If OBS struggles, reducing frame rate is one way to lower that load.
- Language and playlist genre do not determine the bitrate. Codec, ingest resolution and output frame rate do.
Match the bitrate to your stable upload capacity
The selected bitrate must be sustainable, not merely reachable in a speed test. YouTube’s recommended values do not establish what a particular home connection can continuously upload, and no personalized safe maximum can be calculated without a stable-upload result. OBS says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or an inability to keep up with the configured bitrate; its troubleshooting advice is to lower the video bitrate when needed and account for stable upload speed and the streaming service’s limits.

If the connection cannot hold the recommended setting, lower the bitrate and test again rather than assuming the listed minimum will be reliable. OBS’s dropped-frames and connection troubleshooting guide explains the symptoms and steps.
Test the stream before going public
- Run a test with the actual playlist audio and representative movement, transitions and visuals.
- Check YouTube Studio’s stream health and read any messages during the test.
- Watch OBS for dropped frames or rendering and encoding strain. If frames drop, reduce bitrate and repeat the test; if the system struggles at 60 fps, test at 30 fps.
- Confirm that audio and video remain suitable over a representative portion of the stream before starting the public broadcast.
YouTube explicitly advises testing before a live stream with audio and movement similar to what will be used during the event. A successful test is useful evidence about that setup, but does not guarantee a connection or computer will remain stable indefinitely. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
