To check viewers during a YouTube Live, open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and look at Real-time analytics. For a past stream, go to YouTube Studio → Content → Live → select the stream → Analytics → Engagement to see its concurrent-viewers report. The number depends on which metric you mean: views, peak or average concurrent viewers, and watch time measure different things.
Check viewers while your stream is live
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the stream dashboard in Live Control Room.
- Find Real-time analytics.
- Read Concurrent viewers for the number watching simultaneously, and Views for the live view count.
The available metrics can vary depending on whether you are streaming from a phone or an encoder. Use the labels shown in your Studio account.
See the audience report after the stream ends
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Content, then the Live tab.
- Select the ended stream and open Analytics.
- Select Engagement to find the concurrent-viewers report.
YouTube says these video-level metrics are available within minutes after the stream ends. You can also find a post-stream snapshot in Studio. YouTube Analytics reports can be filtered to Live, On demand, or Live & on demand.
Choose the metric that answers your question

| Views | The number of times the stream was viewed while live under YouTube’s view-counting rules. It is not a count of unique people. |
| Concurrent viewers | How many viewers were watching at the same time; in the live dashboard, this is a real-time measure. |
| Peak concurrent viewers | The largest number watching simultaneously at any point during the stream. YouTube Help defines it as “the highest number of viewers during a live stream.” |
| Average concurrent viewers | The average number watching simultaneously over the course of the stream. |
| Total watch time | The combined time the event was played across views; it measures viewing time, not people. |
If you want to describe the largest audience at one moment, use peak concurrent viewers. For a sense of the typical simultaneous audience, use average concurrent viewers. When reporting a count, name the metric rather than calling every figure “people who watched.” YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish an exact unique-person count for an individual stream.

Understand differences between the live dashboard and later reports
YouTube says Analytics data is based on video ID, is processed and despammed, and measures different information from Live Control Room data. A live dashboard number and a later Studio or Analytics number can therefore differ. Identify the report and metric you are quoting instead of treating the figures as identical counters.
Get vertical-only figures for a broadcast in both formats
Live Control Room combines metrics for horizontal and vertical streams. To isolate the vertical stream, wait 24 hours after the broadcast ends, then follow this route:

- In YouTube Studio, select Content → Live, then select the ended stream.
- Open Analytics → Advanced mode.
- Choose Playback location as the breakdown.
- Select a time period longer than the first 24 hours and choose Vertical live feed.
Know which view-counting policy applies
YouTube Help’s content-performance guidance says that, beginning August 24, 2026, views are counted when a video starts to play across Shorts, long-form videos, and live streams. YouTube says this update does not affect YouTube Partner Program earnings or eligibility. Because view-counting rules may change, check YouTube’s current guidance when comparing figures across dates.
