You can use a recurring Make scenario to add a video to a YouTube playlist or, with an authorized YouTube Data API call, change an existing playlist item’s position. That schedules playlist maintenance—not changes to the video currently playing in a YouTube Live broadcast. First decide whether you want to add a video, reorder a playlist item, or schedule a live broadcast; those are separate operations.
Choose the change you want to schedule
| Goal | What changes | Make approach |
|---|---|---|
| Add a video | A video becomes an item in a chosen playlist. | Use Make’s documented YouTube action, “Add a Video to the Playlist,” or an authorized API call. |
| Move an existing item | An existing playlist item receives a different position. | Use the YouTube Data API’s playlistItems.update method through Make’s “Make an API Call” module, if available for your connection. |
| Schedule a live broadcast | A broadcast event is scheduled; it is distinct from playlist-item maintenance. | Use YouTube’s Live Streaming API or YouTube’s live-streaming controls. A recurring Make schedule alone does not establish this behavior. |
Make’s YouTube integration lists playlist creation and deletion actions, “Add a Video to the Playlist,” and “Make an API Call.” Make says the app is supported and maintained by Make. Its listed modules do not, by themselves, prove that a scheduled scenario can control the content being transmitted by an active live stream. See Make’s YouTube integration.
Set a recurring schedule in Make
Make scenarios can be scheduled at regular intervals or on calendar patterns: once, daily, weekdays, weekly, monthly, specified dates, and on demand. The default schedule is every 15 minutes, but the minimum interval depends on your plan. Choose a frequency that suits how often the playlist should change; do not assume that every account can run at any interval. Check Make’s current scheduling documentation and confirm the available schedule options in your account.
- Create a scenario. In Make, start a scenario for the playlist task. Exact builder labels and fields can vary; use the current scenario editor.
- Set its schedule. Choose the relevant interval or calendar schedule. Select a time zone and run timing that match when you want the playlist operation to occur, where those controls are offered.
- Add the YouTube operation. Choose “Add a Video to the Playlist” to add an item. For an operation not exposed as a listed module, use “Make an API Call” only if the current module and your authorized connection support the request you need.
- Map and verify the inputs. For an API insert, provide the destination playlist ID and video resource ID, and authorize the request through YouTube OAuth. Confirm that the chosen video and playlist are the intended ones before activating the scenario.
- Run a controlled test. Test against the intended playlist and inspect Make’s execution history. Confirm the resulting playlist change in YouTube before leaving the scenario active.
Add a video with the YouTube Data API
YouTube’s playlistItems.insert method adds a resource to a playlist. An authorized request must include snippet.playlistId and snippet.resourceId. The API documentation assigns each insert a cost of 50 quota units; quota availability and authorization are separate from Make’s scenario schedule. Read the insert method’s requirements.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In Make, the documented “Add a Video to the Playlist” action may be the most direct route. Check its current required fields in the scenario editor rather than assuming they match an API request field-for-field. If you use the API call module, the operation still needs valid YouTube authorization and the values required by YouTube.
Reorder an existing playlist item
Changing an item’s position is an update to a playlist item, not an insert. YouTube’s playlistItems.update method can modify an existing item, including its position. The request needs the playlist item ID, playlist ID, and resource ID. To set a position, the playlist must use manual ordering. The documented quota cost is 50 units per update. Review the update method.

Be careful when forming an update: YouTube warns that mutable values omitted from the specified part can be removed. Include the intended fields and confirm the item ID refers to the item you mean to move. The Make integration lists “Make an API Call”; verify the present module’s request configuration and authorization before relying on it for this update.
Keep playlist changes separate from YouTube Live scheduling
YouTube models a live broadcast and its live stream as distinct resources. The broadcast represents the event; the stream represents the audio-video feed. Google’s documentation explains: “Using the API, you can schedule events (broadcasts) and associate them with video streams, which represent the actual broadcast content.” A recurring-broadcast example uses multiple broadcast resources, which can share a stream when only one event is live at a time. Read the Live Streaming API overview and the broadcast guide.

Those are not playlist items. Scheduling a Make scenario to run at a recurring time can time a playlist operation; that fact alone does not schedule a broadcast, replace what an active stream is transmitting, or ensure viewers see the new playlist item in a live feed. Treat playlist organization and broadcast/stream management as separate workflows unless you have independently confirmed an integration and method for the live-stream behavior you need.
Check the prerequisites and failure points
- Authorization: YouTube API writes require an authorized request. If the connection is missing, expired, or lacks the necessary access, the operation cannot be assumed to succeed.
- Correct identifiers: An insert needs the target playlist ID and video resource ID. A reorder also needs the existing playlist item ID.
- Ordering mode: A requested position change requires a manually ordered playlist.
- Schedule availability: Make’s minimum interval is plan-dependent. Check your account’s current options rather than relying on a universal interval.
- Quota: YouTube documents 50 quota units per insert and 50 per update. Check your project’s quota use if requests fail or stop succeeding.
- Update contents: Include the fields intended to remain when updating a playlist item; omitted mutable values can be removed.
- Effect on the live feed: If the scenario succeeds but the active broadcast does not change, that is consistent with playlist maintenance being distinct from control of the stream’s media.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a separate option from Make playlist automation: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
