Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or playout service to send a playlist or timed sequence of forest ambience videos to it. YouTube Studio creates the event; it does not rotate your source videos. For an unattended stream, prepare the sequence, test the video and audio, confirm worldwide rights, and plan how you will recover from interruptions and preserve recordings.
How scheduling and video rotation work
A 24/7 ambience broadcast has two separate parts: YouTube’s scheduled live event, which provides the destination and viewer-facing event page, and a playout source, which supplies the video and audio. The playout source—not the schedule in YouTube Studio—determines which forest scene appears and when.
You can arrange scenes as a looping playlist or as a timed schedule in your encoder or streaming service. If particular scenes should start at particular times, build those transitions into the playout schedule and test them. YouTube’s guidance identifies encoder and playout options but does not prescribe a playlist format or promise automatic scene rotation in Studio. YouTube’s encoder setup guide
Choose where the stream will play from
These options differ in where the playout runs and who must maintain it. StreamNeo is a cloud option; YouTube also identifies Gyre for cloud-based 24/7 prerecorded streaming, OBS as software, and AJA HELO Plus hardware with scheduled prerecorded-media playback.

| Option | What it does | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Upload videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer can be off. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. | Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. See StreamNeo for details. |
| 2. Local computer with OBS | YouTube lists OBS among verified software encoders; the computer runs the playlist and sends the stream. | Plan for computer and power use, dependable local internet, restart and reconnect handling, playlist control, and monitoring. A machine must remain available to play and transmit the feed. |
| 3. Cloud playout such as Gyre | YouTube describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video YouTube streams. | Check current service pricing, schedule and file limits, account integration, outage handling, and recording or export needs with the provider; YouTube’s cited guidance does not establish those current details. |
| 4. Dedicated hardware such as AJA HELO Plus | YouTube says AJA HELO Plus can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | Confirm current hardware specifications, availability, supported formats, schedule controls, and the costs of hardware, power, network redundancy, and monitoring before choosing it. |
You do not need a camera or capture card solely to play finished video files: the documented paths include software and playout encoders, and the AJA option is described for prerecorded media. Whatever path you choose, it needs a working source and reliable internet access.
Prepare the ambience playlist
- Choose and order the scenes. Decide whether the sequence loops continuously or changes at set times. Make the intended order and transition points explicit in the playlist or schedule provided by your encoder or playout service.
- Check every file together. Confirm compatible dimensions, frame rates, and audio levels across the sequence. Watch transitions for black frames, abrupt cuts, mismatched sound, or silence where it is not intended.
- Confirm rights for both picture and sound. Use material you created or are licensed to stream and archive. Check that the permission covers the actual use and territory you need; a video licence does not automatically settle rights to its sound recording or music.
- Make a test run. Play representative scenes—including the most visually active and quietest ones—through the chosen playout path. Check the preview, audio, transitions, and stream-health indicators before depending on the sequence unattended.
Create and schedule the YouTube event
- Check eligibility and enable live streaming early. YouTube requires a verified channel without live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Open the scheduling controls. In YouTube Studio, go to Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream. Choose new settings or reuse a previous setup.
- Set the event details. Add the title, description, privacy setting, and other metadata. Scheduling can make the event appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers may choose “Notify me.” Scheduling does not select or rotate the forest videos. See Manage live stream settings.
- Connect the playout source. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder or service. Treat the key as a credential: anyone with it can send a feed to the stream. Use RTMPS when supported; YouTube recommends the encrypted protocol. Keep the key private.
Set video, audio, and bandwidth
Use settings that your encoder and connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not set the interval above four seconds. Its RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video up to 60 fps, with AAC or MP3 audio. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the setting appropriate to your codec, resolution, and frame rate.

For H.264, YouTube’s published recommendations include the following figures on its encoder settings page, accessed October 3, 2026. They are recommendations, not guarantees for every encoder or connection.
| H.264 output | YouTube bitrate guidance |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps minimum; 17 Mbps recommended |
Allow upload headroom above the selected bitrate so normal network variation does not interrupt the feed. A stable lower resolution is preferable to an ambitious setting that repeatedly drops frames; inspect the stream-health messages during the test rather than judging quality from the local files alone.

Start, verify, and monitor the broadcast
- Start the playlist or schedule in the encoder or playout service and confirm that YouTube’s preview shows the intended first scene.
- Start the live stream and check the public watch page on both desktop and mobile. Confirm that picture, ambience audio, title, and event details are correct.
- Monitor stream health and the viewer-facing page. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend continuous monitoring; an unattended 24/7 feed still needs a person or system responsible for noticing and addressing failures. See YouTube live streaming tips.
- If you plan to use auto-start or auto-stop, rehearse the exact behavior with a private or unlisted test event before relying on it for production.
Copyright, reused content, and monetization
YouTube’s livestream terms say providers represent that they have the rights needed for worldwide use on Google services, including music licensing rights. Verify rights separately for each visual and audio asset, including background recordings bundled with a video. YouTube livestream terms and conditions
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are different questions. YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced content is classified as “inauthentic content.” It evaluates videos, including livestreams, in the context of the channel and says monetized content should be original and authentic. Repeating identical scenes with little variation or added value can create monetization risk; original field recordings, deliberate scene programming, meaningful production choices, and transparent descriptions can help show authorship and viewer value, but do not guarantee approval. See YouTube channel monetization policies.

Plan for stream interruptions and missing replays
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay. If recordings matter, record locally or split programming into planned sessions, and confirm how your selected encoder or service handles recording. YouTube’s archive live streams guidance
Before launch, test how the source reconnects after a dropped connection or restarted encoder, and decide who will check the watch page and respond. Keep the stream key secure; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings and update the encoder or service that uses it.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The scheduled event is visible, but no forest video plays. | The event is scheduled, but the encoder or playout source has not sent a feed. | Start the source, confirm its stream URL and key match the event, and check YouTube’s preview. |
| The wrong scene appears or the playlist does not change. | Rotation is not configured in YouTube Studio; the source controls playback. | Correct the playlist or timed schedule in the encoder or service, then test the transitions there. |
| Video buffers, drops frames, or stream health reports problems. | The connection or encoder may not sustain the chosen output settings. | Check sustained upload capacity and headroom, then lower resolution or bitrate to a setting the connection can maintain. Verify CBR and the keyframe interval. |
| Audio is missing, too loud, or changes sharply between scenes. | Files may have inconsistent audio levels, unsupported settings, or an audio track that is absent or misrouted. | Check audio on each source file and in the encoder preview; use a supported AAC or MP3 audio configuration and retest transitions. |
| The stream stops after a local outage or restart. | The source may not reconnect automatically, or the local computer, power, or internet connection may have failed. | Rehearse restart and reconnect behavior; ensure someone can restart the source and confirm the event is receiving video again. |
| A complete replay is not available. | YouTube may not capture a stream longer than 12 hours. | Record separately or divide the schedule into shorter planned sessions if a replay is required; verify the chosen source’s recording behavior. |
