To schedule different cartoon blocks in a 24/7 YouTube livestream, set the timetable in the system that plays and sends the video—not in YouTube Studio. YouTube Studio schedules the broadcast event and its watch page; the playout system must change cartoons or playlists at the right times. For one continuous watch page, configure a sender to switch blocks inside one uninterrupted feed. For individual pages, titles, and reminders, schedule a separate YouTube broadcast for each block.
First decide what viewers should see
A YouTube broadcast and a YouTube stream are related but different. Google describes a broadcast as an event viewers can watch, while a stream is the incoming audio-video feed. One stream can be reused for recurring broadcasts; Google’s API documentation also describes a continuous 24/7 broadcast alongside a separate broadcast bound to the same stream. Scheduling an event does not create a content timetable or play the cartoons. Google’s YouTube Live API documentation explains the distinction.
- One continuous channel feed: One event/watch page remains live while the playout system changes from one cartoon block to another at preset times.
- Separate events: Each block has its own scheduled broadcast, title, watch page, and potential subscriber reminder. This creates separate events, not automatic transitions inside one continuous broadcast.
Choose the viewer experience before building the schedule. A list of blocks and start times is not enough by itself: the playback system must support the required timed handoffs.
Plan the cartoon timetable and rights
Write the running order
Make a schedule in the playout system or its automation layer. For each block, record the playlist or file, intended start time, duration, and what should play if it ends early or a file is missing. Account for the length of each episode and any bumpers, interstitials, or transitions. If exact clock-time starts matter, determine whether the system can interrupt or replace a block at that time rather than merely playing playlists in sequence.

Clear every element for livestream use
Confirm that you have the necessary rights for each cartoon episode, music track, graphic, and other media in the planned livestream. A valid YouTube stream key or an operational broadcast does not establish permission to transmit the material. YouTube provides rights-management controls, but responsibility for the content remains with the operator; see YouTube’s live-streaming guidance.

OBS’s Media Sources guide describes local media playback, looping, and VLC playlists. Check the installed OBS version and any automation you add; the guide does not document a time-of-day scheduler for switching among multiple playlists.

YouTube’s encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware option for scheduling prerecorded media. Treat it as one possible route, not proof that any device or service supports your particular lineup.
Create and connect the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio: Select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream, then create a new event or reuse settings from a previous broadcast. YouTube says, “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” Scheduled streams can appear to subscribers as upcoming, with a Notify me option, and you can share the URL. See YouTube’s stream-scheduling instructions.
- Choose the event details: Set the title, description, visibility, and intended start time. Reusing settings can carry over metadata, stream settings, and the key, so review them rather than assuming they are correct for the new event.
- Configure your playout sender: Enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder or cloud sender. Treat the key like a password: limit access and reset it if exposed.
- Start the feed: Start the encoder or sender and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. For the scheduled workflow, click Go live in Live Control Room when the feed is ready.
- Test a full block transition: Where available, use a private or unlisted test. Check the opening frame, audio, changeover between blocks, intended timing, stream health, and what happens if the sender drops and reconnects. A scheduled time does not make a sender start by itself; video and audio still have to reach YouTube. Test auto-start and auto-stop against your actual operating plan rather than treating them as signal recovery.
YouTube’s stream settings documentation covers encoder setup and stream settings. Follow its current instructions for the encoder you use; these settings do not substitute for configuring the separate block schedule in your playout system.

Keep one 24/7 watch page—or schedule separate events?
For one continuous watch page
Use one continuing feed and have the playout system change media within it. Verify that it can perform each time-based handoff while maintaining the broadcast, and test interruption and reconnection behavior. YouTube’s event scheduler does not perform those handoffs. Also plan for archives separately: YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not assume a continuous 24/7 session will be archived indefinitely or remain uninterrupted.
For separate pages and reminders
Create a scheduled broadcast for each block and connect the appropriate feed to each event. This gives viewers separate event pages and can let subscribers use Notify me. It does not turn one live event into several block-specific events automatically; the sender and event workflow need to match each broadcast.

Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
- The event is scheduled, but nothing is playing: The YouTube event is only the broadcast page. Start the encoder or cloud sender, confirm it has the correct stream URL and key, and wait for a feed preview.
- A block does not change at the scheduled time: Check the playout system’s automation, clock and time zone, playlist assignment, and file availability. A looping playlist alone may repeat content without switching to another block.
- The event starts late: Confirm that the sender was started and that the preview reached Live Control Room. Scheduling a broadcast does not guarantee that the feed will begin at the scheduled minute.
- The stream disconnects and does not return: Check sender connectivity and stream health, then test the reconnect behavior of the chosen encoder or service. YouTube’s schedule is not itself a recovery mechanism.
- The scheduled page has the wrong details: Review reused metadata, stream settings, and key before each event. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- A stream works technically but raises a rights issue: Recheck permissions for the episode, music, graphics, and other material. A successful connection does not resolve licensing or other content-rights concerns.
Costs and operating checks
Compare the cost of the complete setup, not just the playback application: local computer and power, any hardware encoder, automation software or service, storage, and the work needed to maintain and recover the stream. A cloud option can remove the need to leave a home computer running, but confirm that it supports the required timed block changes before choosing it. YouTube’s encoder directory identifies the AJA HELO Plus as an option for scheduled prerecorded media; verify current model availability, price, and multi-block capability with the manufacturer or seller.
Before launch, confirm the timetable and time zone, block handoffs, stream-key security, rights for every media element, preview and audio, recovery plan, event-page choice, and archive expectations. YouTube’s guidance on encoder setup and encoders can help with the sending side; neither replaces a tested playout schedule.
